Intelligent Transportation Systems Engineer

Gannett Fleming TranSystems efficiently manages existing transportation networks and provides direction on smart city initiatives.

Our ITS team is looking for a highly motivated Intelligent Transportation Systems Engineer who wants to join an exciting team of transportation professionals in the GF Transportation Operations Group. This position will have the opportunity to work on ITS and traffic signals projects throughout Long Island, New York.

Responsibilities:

• Perform engineering design services throughout the project life-cycle, from concept through construction.
• Works with lead engineer and other disciplines to prepare appropriate designs, as dictated by the scope of work.
• Performs engineering analysis related to design, implementation, and operations of ITS elements and sub-systems.
• Analyzes moderate to complex design problems requiring the development of new or improved techniques or procedures.
• Assess the impact of construction and utility work on the ITS infrastructure and develop necessary mitigation measures.
• Develop engineering drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and prepare final bid packages.
• Communicates with clients on task oriented issues and on project issues under the direction of the project manager.
• Use strong writing skills and engineering planning to develop guidance documents and reports such as systems engineering documents.
• Interaction with clients to relay clear, concise and consistent project related updates.
• Participate in projects by completing tasks within schedule and budget.
• Participate in meetings, seminars, conferences, and committees.
• Performs project site visits and field work.
• Assist with testing and resolving technical issues during new installations or modifications of ITS field equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Civil or Electrical preferred) or relevant discipline
• EIT and on the path to obtain P.E. licensure
• 3-5 years' experience working in a relevant field
• Traffic signal and/or fiber optic communication system design experience is preferred
• Experience with CADD or Microstation
• Expertise with MS Office
• Ability to travel in Long Island and in the field
• Some experience with management of project tasks
• Strong desire in developing a career in ITS
