Responsibilities

Cumberland Hospital for Children and Adolescents, located in New Kent, Virginia, provides comprehensive medical, behavioral, rehabilitative, and educational services for children and adolescents ages 2 through 22 who are challenged by co-occurring medical and behavioral diagnoses. Cumberland Hospital is one of the few specialty children's hospitals providing dual treatment protocols for both medical and mental health issues. Cumberland includes a 62 bed Hospital Program, a 16 bed Inpatient Acute Program, and 30 bed Residential Treatment Program. Our goal is to stabilize medical problems and help children develop positive behavioral coping strategies using an interdisciplinary approach.

We are currently looking for a Part-time Occupational Therapist.The Occupational Therapist is responsible for the evaluation and treatment of patients per physician order in accordance with the American Occupational Therapy Association's Standards of Practice and Virginia licensure laws; and for participation in ongoing educational, research, quality assurance, and program development activities as established by Hospital and discipline policy.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Evaluates and treat patients in an effective and efficient manner in accordance with standards of practice; implements treatment plans; indicates competency across areas of practice.
  • Completes documentation in clear, well-written form and in timely manner, as well as, includes measurable data, accurate interpretation, and appropriate recommendations.
  • Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team to integrate OT treatment plans into overall care plan for patient.
  • Participates in and provides staff development training, as well as, family/patient consultation as needed. Provides mentorship and supervision (as indicates by Clinical Supervisor) to orientees, OT's with less experience and support staff.
  • Acts as advocate in providing safe delivery of care to promote wellness. Demonstrated the ability to respond calmly and effectively to emergency situations, ability to de-escalate patient and to complete incident reports as necessary.
  • Completes patient care and departmental tasks in an efficient and professional manner.
  • Participates in monitoring of quality care and in program development as guided by Clinical Supervisor.
  • To provide supervision to student affiliates in compliance with AOTA standards, when designated by OT Clinical Supervisor.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • MUST possess current Virginia certification to practice as an Occupational Therapist and registered and certified by American Occupational Therapy Certification Board
  • Three years related experience (preferred) with adolescents and children.
  • Previous experience with emotionally disturbed or physically disabled persons preferred.
  • Must be able to sustain physical activity throughout the scheduled shift, must be able to perform CPR and First Aid.
  • Able to remain on feet throughout the scheduled shift
