Position Announcement

Under the supervision of the Director of First-Year Advisement, and in close collaboration with the Associate Athletic Directors of Compliance and Academic Services & Student Welfare, this position will oversee and determine NCAA eligibility status for entering, continuing, and transferring student-athletes. Work closely with athletic department, including coaches, to monitor NCAA eligibility and review student-athletes' eligibility status from semester to semester.


Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate NCAA eligibility records and files on each student-athlete, including performing daily Banner queries to monitor student-athlete enrollment and maintaining up-to-date status of student-athlete academic eligibility in Banner Student Information System. Identify eligibility issues involving student-athletes and communicate infraction to Registrar, Academic Advising, Faculty Athletic Representative, and Athletic Compliance Officer for further action.
  • Review pending eligibility status of prospective freshmen student-athletes with the NCAA Eligibility Center. Perform and determine all initial transfer evaluations progress/percentage toward degree eligibility. Determine if student-athletes are meeting standards for satisfactory academic progress towards a degree, and provide a comprehensive evaluation of each student-athlete's admission, readmission, and eligibility status before each semester to certify progress toward degree.
  • Communicate with the NCAA Eligibility Center to resolve disputed documents or calculations. Coordinate with the Athletic Department's Compliance Office on an admission and eligibility status report for all newly recruited student-athletes enrolling for the first time. Provide eligibility and progress toward degree data required for NCAA reports, including Graduation Success Rate (GSR) and Academic Progress Rate (APR), to the Athletic department.
  • Manage sensitive and confidential information related to all students, including student-athletes and the entire Utah Tech University (UT) athletic program.
  • Maintain current knowledge of NCAA rules, WAC regulations, UT policies, and other pertinent requirements related to student-athlete eligibility.
  • Attend advising events on and off-campus and support athletic advisors in meeting with prospective athletes and families.
  • Provide the bulk of the eligibility advisement for student-athletes. Refer students to other department advisors for assistance with degree and graduation planning while supporting all other advisors on campus.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience with Banner Student system, especially registration and records functions, preferred or experience working with a similar student information system.
  • Ability to multi-task and work as a team member in a busy office setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules, especially related to eligibility, as well as knowledge of collegiate or university academic programs and courses.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of requirements and procedures related to FERPA.
  • Must be able and flexible to work evenings and weekends during peak periods at the commencement of each fall and spring semester.
  • Ability to implement policies and procedures appropriately.
  • Ability to create and maintain accurate records and meet strict deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time overtime-exempt staff position. Annual salary of $47,000 for a bachelor's degree qualified applicant, and $50,000 for a master's degree qualified applicant. Desired start date of March 2025.
