Examples of Job Duties:
- Performs, on work site, activities regarding storm drain maintenance including mains, catch basins, detention/retention facilities and channelization.
- Acts as flag-person to control traffic while road work is being accomplished.
- Assists Senior Maintenance Person in performing tasks.
- Landscapes City properties, mow and edge grass, plant and maintain flower beds, apply fertilizer and herbicide, trim trees, maintain paths and trails and removes brush and trash.
- Repairs irrigation and drainage systems.
- Mows and maintains storm ponds, City facilities and medians.
- Performs, on work site, activities regarding street maintenance, such as temporary and permanent asphalt patching and concrete work, traffic control, vegetation control, street cleaning and pothole repairs.
- Performs, on work site, activities regarding sewer maintenance including mains, pumping stations, and appurtenances, such as repairing and cleaning mains, troubleshooting pump problems at lift station and safety observer.
- Performs, on work site, activities regarding water system maintenance of mains, valves, hydrants, meters, PRVs and appurtenances, such as reading meters, repair hydrants, install and services mains.
- May be required to return to the City during off hours in case of emergency.
- May be required to perform standby duty if there are not enough volunteers to fill the need.
- Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Desired Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to operate a variety of hand and power-driven tools.
- Ability to operate "light" equipment, such as five-yard dump truck, backhoe as a loader and concrete mixer among others.
- Ability to communicate in English orally and in writing.
- Ability to meet with the public and communicate effectively with citizens.
- Ability to read blueprints and engineering plans.
- Work in a team environment and independently.
The Most Competitive Candidate May Also Possess:
- One year of utility construction experience.
- Municipal experience is preferred.
- Class A Combination Driver's License with air and tanker endorsements
- A certified flagging card (required) six months after date of hire. (Paid for by the city)

Successful candidates will be required to complete a reference check, pass a physical examination and undergo drug testing prior to employment. This position is defined as safety-sensitive and once employed, an employee may be required to undergo drug testing as needed. Working Conditions:
- Must be able to climb into and out of trenches and excavation and construction equipment.
- Must be able to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds and bulky objects.
- Must be willing to work in inclement weather.
Union Membership: Positions in this classification will be represented by PUBLIC, PROFESSIONAL & OFFICE-CLERICAL EMPLOYEES AND DRIVERS LOCAL UNION NO. 763 Work Schedule: These positions work a 40-hour workweek and is overtime eligible with Supervisor approval.
