Overview |
The New Jersey 4-H Camp is located within Stokes State Forest in Branchville, NJ. For the duration of the 8-week summer camp season, June 22nd-August 16th, kitchen staff work to provide daily meals for the 175 campers and 50 staff members residing at the L.G. Cook 4-H Youth Center for Outdoor Education. Kitchen Staff are responsible for all elements of running a cleanly, effective, and friendly kitchen commercial kitchen in our rustic residential environment. The goal of the 4-H Camp kitchen is to serve consistent meals appealing to our youth-aged population providing both sustenance and comfort. The menu will be accommodating to dietary needs and allergy restrictions. Kitchen Staff will be expected to help guide both counselor-level and volunteer kitchen assistants, and engage in active problem solving to overcome challenges and keep the meals on schedule and ensure that 4-H Camp population happy, healthy, and fed. |

Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Operates commercial-grade kitchen equipment safely.
- Operates a dishwasher and maintains the appropriate water temperature.
- Determines the cleanliness of dishes, food contact surfaces, and kitchen area; assess food condition.
- Serves on a team maintaining all kitchen areas and equipment cleanliness.
- Assists with intake of deliveries, food storage, and inventory.
- Serves on a team preparing and cooking all meals for a camp population of over 225.
- Communicates effectively with staff and campers.
- Assists campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness or injury), and possesses strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- High school/vocational school education or equivalent.
- Previous kitchen experience required including ordering food, overseeing and scheduling cooks.

- Ability to order all food and oversee kitchen cooks schedules.

- Commercial grade oven, stove, warmer boxes, kettle, Hobart dishwasher.

Physical Demands and Work Environment |
- Must have the physical strength to lift/unload/move food and supplies; lift dishes to their storage location.
- Must have visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards, read prescriptions and health forms.
