Summary
An Associate Estimator, MEP manages and assists in the compilation of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and technology systems estimates for various projects and is responsible for cost accuracy and analysis for Healthcare and Mission Critical Projects. An Associate Estimator, MEP maintains a high level of professionalism in estimating, understanding of MEPF systems design principles, and industry knowledge.
Duties
  • Champions "The Layton Way" by delivering predictable outcomes for internal teams, external teams, and customers.
  • Ensures that "Constructing with Integrity" is delivered by working with honesty, unity, safety, and quality of work.
  • Assist in the preparation of quantity takeoffs, estimates, and cost evaluations for MEPF systems throughout all stages of design.
  • Assist in development of systems budgets and evaluations for MEPF systems during initial project programming phases.
  • Assist in providing constructability review for MEPF systems design throughout preconstruction and provide value-engineering solutions. Communicate all relevant constructability and cost issues to the ownership team.
  • Develop and strengthen working relationships with MEPF systems trade-partners to maintain competitive advantage.
  • Document and archive historical project costs and assist with the development and maintenance of historical cost database for MEPF systems.
  • Assist in the preparation MEPF systems buyout packages and solicit scope pricing for bidding/procurement of MEPFS systems for all major project-delivery methods (lump-sum, GMP, design-assist, etc). Coordinate with other MEPS preconstruction personnel to ensure complete and accurate scoping.
  • Coordinate project requirements with consulting engineers, architects, internal team members and trade partners to clarify scope and schedule requirements.
  • Assist during the bid leveling process for MEPF systems and provide guidance for the Layton preconstruction team for scope coverage, best value, and risk elimination.
  • Assist in the development of RFP responses and participate in relevant project pursuit efforts, including participating in client interviews, as needed.
  • Assist in the development of project construction schedule, providing necessary feedback for MEPS systems durations and sequencing.
  • Being able to read and understands contract construction documents along with the MEP trades.
  • Assists with the preparation of bid proposal for submittal.
  • Assists staff members with various special projects related to estimating.
Qualifications
  • Mechanical Engineering Degree and construction management related field, or equivalent education and experience.
  • 3+ years of MEP-specific experience in commercial construction projects, demonstrating competence in hard-bid, design-build, and bid analysis.
  • Ability to work with in-person, remote, and hybrid teams
  • Preferred working knowledge of Destini Estimator software, Blue Beam, Assemble, On Screen Takeoff and other latest software and technology.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Work, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to operate office equipment, such as computer, printer, phone, copier, fax, etc.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for the construction industry.
  • Appropriate knowledge of construction practices & MEP trades along with means and method.
  • Working knowledge of Revit and Primavera systems preferred.
