Coordinator - International Students and Scholars

Creighton University in Omaha, NE is seeking to hire a Coordinator for International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) in the Global Engagement Office.

This role serves as a point of contact for international students seeking assistance with adaptation to U.S. culture. The Coordinator also works closely with international students, supporting them in compliance with federally mandated non-immigrant visa regulations related to the Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).

Key Responsibilities



  • Ensures institutional compliance with U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Department of State immigration regulations for F-1 (degree-seeking) and J-1 (short-term exchange) visa holders.
  • Assists international students in adapting and adjusting to life in the U.S., Omaha, and at Creighton University to improve opportunities for student success and retention. This includes, a weekly newsletter, collaborating with campus partners, and direct student and scholar advising.
  • Plans and leads events on cultural adjustment, cross-cultural communication, global mindfulness, and work authorization (CPT/OPT) as part of the ongoing orientation program of international students, as well as upon request for other University groups.
  • Issues Form I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status) to undergraduate, graduate, Intensive English Language Institute, and professional students upon admission to the University and advises F-1 and J-1 students and scholars on immigration regulations, compliance, requirements, and benefits, including work authorization (CPT/OPT).



Qualifications



  • Master's degree in Education or field related to international education.
  • Prior experience as Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) and/or Designated School Official (DSO).
  • Experience in cross-cultural communication and negotiation.
  • Second language ability (preferred)
  • Familiarity with Terra Dotta Software, specifically the ISSS Student product (preferred).
  • Knowledge of federal regulations and ability to monitor federal agency regulations, policies, standards and trends related to international student and scholar immigration status.
  • Knowledge of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed research methods to conduct needs assessments, gather data about student experience, and guide student engagement program design decisions.
  • Ability to implement coaching strategies and ability to mentor students.
