DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION Coordinate with nursing leaders and CED to ensure that all staff who perform patient testing at the point of care comply with federal, state, and local requirements as outlined by the DNV, CAP, CMS, CLIA, and the Department of Health. Coordinate training and competency programs for all operators of POC instrumentation and testing. Serve as a liaison for the laboratory by interacting with other health care providers. Establish and monitor a quality assurance program that encompasses quality control, proficiency testing, and documentation of test results. Prepare for and participate in CAP and DNV inspections. Write test procedures and update procedure manuals, as necessary. Prepare business analyses of proposed POC testing while keeping quality service and patient care as a top priority. Evaluate requested POC equipment and technologies and recommend their usefulness vs. cost and limitations. Assure initial test validation, standardization, correlation, operation, QC, maintenance, and troubleshooting is performed on all POC instruments and test kits according to manufacturer and regulatory guidelines. Order and maintain adequate inventories of supplies and reagents necessary for POC testing. Assure reagents and supplies are acceptable for use according to regulatory standards before distributing them for patient testing. May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Certification: Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS or IMLS), categorical or specialist technologist (such as Chemistry, Cytotechnologist, Histotechnologist, Microbiology, Blood Banking, Molecular Biology) by American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT), or Certified Point of Care Professional (CPP) by American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC), or Clinical Laboratory Technologist by former Dept of Health Education & Welfare (HEW/HHS). Bachelor's degree. Individuals who have qualified as a medical technologist by February 28, 1992 may substitute an associate's degree. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
