Applied Controls is a manufacturer's representative of industrial process controls, serving the oil & gas, refining, power, chemical, food & beverage, cement and general industry. The Project Engineer is responsible for designing safe, high quality and robust analyzer system integrations as well as the execution of projects from the project initiation stage to the project closing stage within a structured project management process. The Project Engineer is the main point of contact for our clients during the execution of the project scope of work and is responsible for coordinating the effort of a multidisciplinary team within the company. The Project Engineer position reports to the Engineering and Operations Manager.

Some of the exciting things you will do in this role...

  • Analysis of detailed client specifications, estimates, drawings, process flow diagrams, and P&IDs to capture technical scope requirements.

  • Identification of project scope requirements and performing the necessary project initiation tasks to support effective project kick offs.

  • Development of project schedules and budgets to monitor project progress and cost performance.

  • Preparation and presentation of weekly project status reports.

  • Serve as the focal point for clients during the project lifecycle.

  • Design safe, cost effective and high-quality industrial analyzer systems for process & environmental applications at refinery, chemical, power and cement plants.

  • Collaboration with technical personnel at our clients and vendors as well as subject matter experts within the company to develop and complete the system design.

  • Perform the necessary calculations for the system design.

  • Complete, in conjunction with electrical subject matter experts as necessary, the electrical system design and diagrams including power distribution, breaker panel schedule, UPS protection, lighting and controls.

  • Coordination with Drafting personnel to complete the system drawings.

  • Detailed verification of information to be presented on the system drawings.

  • Selection of appropriate equipment and components per our clients' specifications and industry standards.

  • Development of Cause-and-Effect Matrix for PLC programming.

  • Coordination with Service personnel for the programming and setup of PLC, HMI, VFD, controllers and analyzers.

  • Development and execution of factory acceptance procedures.

  • Coordination of project lessons learned reviews for continuous improvement.

  • Support the requirements for the ISO 9001 compliant quality system.

  • Perform other duties as required.

A must...

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or similar discipline.

  • 3 years minimum experience in Project Engineering.

  • Effective skills for scheduling and leading meetings with clients, co-workers and vendors.

  • Effective communication skills both written and verbal for interfacing with clients, coworkers and vendors

  • Effective computer skills: Microsoft Office Software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook), Microsoft Project, Teams, Adobe, AutoCAD (preferred), and other company software applications.

  • Ability to identify and communicate opportunities for continuous improvement.

  • Practical knowledge of NEC, UL, and CSA standards.

  • Ability to travel 10% or less.
