A Day in the Life

A typical day as an IRS Tax Controversy Manager or Senior Manager might include the following:

  • Provide consulting services for various federal tax groups including federal audits, federal tax collection issues and tax resolution services.
  • Manage and deliver client IRS, audit, Appeals, collection, and penalty abatement projects, including review and analysis of client data, and preparation of required supporting documents and IRS filings.
  • Supervise and delegate duties to Associate and Senior Associate level staff.
  • Provide mentoring and technical training for employees in the department.
  • Evaluate the costs, benefits, and risks of alternative solutions to client problems or needs.
  • Contact and work with IRS audit, collection and Appeals staff regarding client projects and filings.
  • Manage client relationships by monitoring client needs and building value into professional service.
  • Manage client billing for accounting services provided.
  • Develop business with clients within industries and markets that meet Firm objectives.
  • Participate in professional association meetings and forums.

Who You Are

  • You have a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or other relevant education.
  • You have a valid CPA or Enrolled Agent license required.
  • You have 5-8 years of experience in public accounting or tax resolution.
  • You have previous IRS controversy or collection experience or federal tax consulting (highly preferred but not a requirement).
  • You have extensive knowledge of tax accounting principles and IRS regulations.
  • You have critical and analytical thinking skills.
  • You have excellent skills in networking and developing business.
  • You have the ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally.
  • You have the ability to work on multiple projects and meet deadlines by setting priorities with work projects.
  • You have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and clients.
  • You are proficient with computers, Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and related programs.

Must be authorized to work in the United States now or in the future without visa sponsorship.

Compensation $90,000-$150,000

Our compensation philosophy emphasizes competitive and equitable pay. Eide Bailly complies with all local/state regulations regarding displaying ranges. Final compensation decisions are dependent upon factors such as geography, experience, education, skills, and internal equity.
