The Division of Finance and Administration (DFA) is comprised of approximately 800 staff members of diverse functions and 150+ student workers, providing services and support to over 50,000 students, faculty, and staff with the vision to advance UCI's brilliant future, strategic goals, and priorities through leadership in resource management, sustainability, and innovation while fostering a commitment to inclusive excellence. The DFA HR team provides local HR support across DFA reporting into the Office of the CFO and Vice Chancellor. They work closely with campuswide HR colleagues serving as the central contact point for DFA and provides strategic partnership, operational consulting, and support on a variety of people-related activities including recruitment, compensation, leave administration, employee and labor relations, onboarding and offboarding, employee engagement and development, talent management, HR compliance, as well as organizational and team effectiveness.


Your Role on the Team

Recognized functional expert who leads the divisional level Human Resources and Payroll department as Director and Senior HR Business Partner (HRBP) and member of DFA cabinet reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and Vice Chancellor for the Division of Finance and Administration (DFA). Regularly leads human resources projects of criticality to the organization, as well as driving people-related activities across the division in support of the strategic plan and priorities for the division, central human resources, and the university. Incumbent utilizes comprehensive and in-depth human resources expertise to provide guidance and recommendations regarding strategic direction to the organization and its leaders. Works closely with leaders and stakeholders on human resources matters that are the most diverse and complex in scope where analysis of data and situations requires evaluation of many factors and implications with broad impact on the organization. Determines methods and procedures on new assignments and ensures the HR team effectively guides and supports people actions which are compliant with labor laws, as well as UC policies, procedures and practices, while aligning with operational and strategic priorities. Is considered a subject matter expert of the organization and often recognized as an expert externally in the industry. Includes oversight of the DFA Payroll team, which is responsible for payroll activities for DFA, including timekeeping oversight, processing payroll, cost transfers in coordination with DFA Finance, and managing divisional payroll functions.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $143,050.00- $212,952.00 (Annually).

Required:

  • Possesses expert analytical skills to provide strategic direction for HR practices and procedures, conduct analysis, provide meaningful analytics, and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of organizational policies and procedures; advanced knowledge of human resource practices utilizing the HR business partner model and understands how work affects other areas in Human Resources and the organization.
  • Expert knowledge of employment practices, labor relations, including solid understanding of integrating activities with collective bargaining agreements, salary administration, training, talent planning, performance management, and other areas of human resources as well as organization initiatives relating to and / or affecting human resources. .
  • Expert knowledge of a human resources management system (HRMS - UCPath preferred), and / or other related business software programs and systems including applicant tracking and leave administration systems.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to present complex information and ability to adjust to a wide variety of audience levels
  • Demonstrated ability to handle the most difficult or volatile situations / individuals effectively including de-escalation skills. Highly developed analytical, active listening and critical thinking skills .
  • Demonstrated skill in directly managing a team of HR professionals, including developing talent and effectively managing performance
  • Expertise in building, adapting, and maintaining partnerships with key stakeholders at various levels across an organization
  • 10 or more years of broad Human Resources experience in multiple disciplines including 6 or more as a Generalist (HR BP preferred) and 5 or more directly managing others..
  • Experience providing HR partnership support in a complex business environment

Preferred:

  • Advanced knowledge of strategic planning including development of goals and implementation plans
  • Demonstrated skill managing divisional payroll activities
  • HR Certification (SPHR or SHRM CP)
  • Change Management certification (Prosci or other)
  • HR experience with higher education and/or public employment

Special Conditions:

  • Ability to work onsite multiple days each week
  • Ability to work outside regular business hours
