The Stakeholder Relations Office (SRO) develops, implements, and assesses strategic internal and external communications plans and programs to advance the scientific mission and priority programs and initiatives of the Lab; develops and implements government and stakeholder relations programs to help increase support for the Lab's programs and priority projects; and oversees science education and workforce development programs to fulfill the Lab's and DOE's education and diversity goals.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Brookhaven National Laboratory is hiring a Senior Photographer/Videographer who will work with a cross-functional team of creative professionals in the Lab's Creative Resources group, including photographers, graphic designers, and copy service staff. The successful applicant will be proficient in all phases of highly skilled photography and video applications, from capture through editing, archiving, and file delivery, providing these services for customers across the Laboratory. The role also involves coordinating tasks in line with the job requirements, ranging from specialized scientific photography techniques to those involved with public outreach and communication. Additionally, the role provides scientific staff with technical expertise and guidance to effectively apply photographic methods in experimental research.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, shoot, and edit high-quality photographs and videos that meet project goals and creative objectives.
  • Collaborate with other team members, scientists and communicators to capture technical and scientific processes in ways that are accurate, engaging, and easy to understand.
  • Ensure consistency in visual style and branding across all media assets
  • Plan and execute live-streaming events, including webinars, conferences, and all-hands meetings.
  • Manage and maintain a variety of photographic and video equipment, ensuring it is in optimal working condition.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in photography, video production, and live-streaming.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Photography, Videography or relevant field and 5 years of relevant experience or a combination of education and 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Premier Pro, Lightroom, Photoshop and Photo Mechanic.
  • Applicants must submit a portfolio demonstrating their skills and experience.
  • Strong knowledge in production techniques including videography, photography, file compression, file delivery, and archiving.
  • Broad knowledge of all aspects of broadcast quality production, including field and studio camera, lighting, sound, and editing.
  • Understanding of online video environment and online distribution (including webcasting/live streaming) through web and social media.
  • Ability to adapt equipment setup and provide alternative setup or workarounds if necessary.
  • Ability to manage a variety of simultaneous projects within tight deadlines, excellent organizational and time management skills, excellent interpersonal skills, mature judgment, and diplomacy required to interact effectively with and provide customer service to a broad audience.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Master's degree in Photography, Videography, or relevant field.
  • Experience working with scientists or technical experts.
  • Part 107 Drone pilot's license and experience in aerial photography.
  • Experience in Adobe After Effects.

The Lab's placement policy is to select the best qualified candidate for an available position. The salary starting rate for this position is $54.58 / hour. Increases will be subject for review as per the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
