Pay Rate/Range: The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $25.77 to $29.00. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University. The full salary range for this position is $25.77 to $43.58/hr.

Type of Remote or Hybrid Work Arrangement, if applicable: Hybrid (Both UC & Non-UC locations) Hybrid work schedule will be considered after the probationary period has been completed and as long as hybrid arrangements are approved by the Division of Student Affairs. Brief Summary of Job Duties:

As a member of the Student Life Cluster, the Restorative Justice Assistant aids in advancing, a program that aims to foster a sense of community and belonging for all students. Reporting to the Restorative Justice Coordinator, is responsible for enhancing and elevating the visibility of restorative justice programing on campus. Supports the Student Life Cluster and Student Affairs division by assisting with researching, developing, planning, and implementing programs and events such as lectures, films, discussions, musical performances, spoken word events, film discussions, workshops representing a wide range of perspectives. In collaboration with Student Engagement & Leadership, supports campus event scheduling for Registered Campus Organizations by coordinating and approving campus and non-campus requests for reserving General Assignment Inventory spaces. Additionally, manages and maintains the Shoreline platform, serving as the campus liaison with CampusGroups staff and the main contact for Shoreline-related inquiries.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Experience coordinating and facilitating restorative justice circles, conferences, or similar conflict resolution processes.
  • Experience in planning, organizing, and executing events, such as workshops, lectures, panel discussions, or performances, with a focus on community engagement.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to resolve conflicts diplomatically and manage complex situations involving various stakeholders.
  • Experience with managing online platforms, including troubleshooting, training users, and updating platform content.
  • Experience working as part of a team to develop, plan, and implement programs that enhance student success and community engagement.
  • Knowledge of University processes and procedures.
  • Understanding of University rules and regulations.
  • Skills in service orientation, active listening, critical thinking.
  • Abilities in problem identification, reasoning.
  • Ability to multi-task, verbal communication, written communication and organization skills.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:

50% Restorative Justice Programming & Circle Facilitation - Reporting to the Restorative Justice Coordinator, is responsible for enhancing and elevating the visibility of restorative justice programing on campus. Supports the day-to-day operations of the UCSB Restorative Justice Program and serves as a resource and makes referrals to campus and community support services. Supports the implementation of inclusive and student-centered programming for the Restorative Justice program on campus. Serves as the point of contact for the Restorative Justice Program. Aids in advancing a program that aims to foster a sense of community and belonging for all students. Participates in the development and execution of programmatic objectives to facilitate student success and make appropriate referrals as needed. Responsible for the organizational management and facilitation of restorative justice circles and conferences. This includes coordinating logistics, such as scheduling, participant preparation, and space setup, while ensuring adherence to restorative justice principles and protocols. They design and facilitate structured, inclusive, and empathetic dialogues that promote accountability, trust building and community building among participants. Additionally, they develop and implement systems for tracking and assessing outcomes of the RJ circles and conferences, and provide training, outreach and support to campus community to ensure sustainability and effectiveness of restorative practices within UCSB.

25% Student Life and Divisional Programming - Supports the Student Life Cluster and Student Affairs division by assisting with researching, developing, planning, and implementing programs and events such as lectures, films, discussions, musical performances, spoken word events, film discussions, workshops representing a wide range of perspectives. Organizes, plans and develops small events or portions of larger events, including workshops, panel discussions, art exhibits, receptions etc. on a quarterly basis.. Supports the negotiation directly with individuals or agents/representatives, including time and venue, honoraria, lodging, meals, and travel. Supports the development and oversight of budget allocations for all events. Seeks co-sponsorships. Keeps a log of donors and follows through as needed. Sets strict deadlines for programming and adheres to them. Anticipates, manages, and troubleshoots issues associated with programming. Supports the coordination of technical and stage set-up. Supports facilitation between artists, speakers, poets or panelists and students, faculty, staff and the community. Conducts assessments of each program. Responsible for promoting attendance at events. Supports the coordination of communication with faculty and departments. Supports program's marketing goals, social media, and event write-ups.

25% Campus Event Scheduling & Shoreline Management - Coordinates and approves campus and non-campus requests for reserving General Assignment Inventory spaces, including classrooms, lecture halls, and outdoor areas. Balances resource optimization, cost efficiency, and compliance with campus policies to approve, reassign, or deny requests, typically within five business days. Anticipates future space needs based on historical trends, proactively communicates with clients to submit timely reservations, mitigates scheduling conflicts, and addresses issues like amplified sound or large crowd management. Applies creativity and diplomacy to resolve space conflicts, ensuring priority programs (e.g., Summer Sessions, Orientation) receive adequate resources. Acts as the primary escalation point for complex scheduling issues unresolved by Student Life Peers, resolving concerns efficiently and with political acumen. Serves as a liaison to campus units such as UCPD, Fire Marshal, and Facilities Management, ensuring departments meet related responsibilities, such as equipment delivery and event monitoring. Enhances scheduling workflows in AdAstra in collaboration with the Registrar's Office and maintains scheduling forms, guides, and reports. Manages and maintains the Shoreline platform, serving as the campus liaison with CampusGroups staff and the main contact for Shoreline-related inquiries. Oversees the department's Shoreline Support email account, facilitates collaboration among stakeholders, and delivers training to strengthen partnerships. Regularly updates platform functionality in collaboration with UCSB's SIS&T/ETS, develops training materials, and engages in professional development through CampusGroups webinars and forums. Maintains request forms, publishes how-to guides, and generates reports to support campus-wide adoption and effective use of the platform.
