Job Summary

Under the direction of the Deputy Chief Information Security Ocer (DCISO) in the Information Security Oce (ISO) of Information & Educational Technology (IET), this position works on a wide variety of legal and organizational issues encountered in an Information Security Oce (ISO) at the University. The position reviews contracts and develops recommendations for the ISO on legal, regulatory, privacy and compliance risks across a number of different ISO functions and services. Also, acts as the liaison with University counsel on legal matters. This position researches and drafts memorandums on special projects undertaken by the ISO. May also assist in other areas under the purview of the ISO, such as participating in risk and compliance reviews of research contracts, cloud vendors and/or campus departments.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

* Graduate from an accredited Law School.
* Experience researching and interpreting data and/or documents.
* Experience interpreting, analyzing and summarizing legal statutes, laws and regulations, and legal documents, policies and procedures.
* Experience using legal research platforms such as Westlaw, LexisNexis or similar.
* Legal writing skills to produce clear, organized reports, correspondence and legal memos.
* Oral, written and interpersonal communication skills to convey information of varying complexity to a wide variety of audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience with information assurance (IA) principles and organizational requirements that are relevant to confidentiality, integrity, availability, authentication, and non-repudiation.
* Experience with current industry methods for evaluating, implementing, and disseminating information technology (IT) security assessment, monitoring, detection and remediation tools and procedures utilizing standards-based concepts and capabilities.
* Basic IT knowledge (i.e. computer programs, databases and networks).
* Knowledge and understanding of different data attributes (i.e. electronic, physical, PII, HIPAA) and the laws applied to them.

Key Responsibilities

* 50% - Supplier and Contract Review and Analyses
* 25% - Legal Support For the Risk, Compliance, Litigation and Incident Response Groups in the ISO
* 15% - Research & Consult on UC/UCD Security & Privacy Policies
* 10% - Training, Education & Other Duties As Assigned

Department Overview

The ISO Legal Fellowship permits one Fellow to spend one year in residence in the ISO, working for the campus on contractual issues, and researching other legal issues facing the ISO and the University. This Fellowship will also provide the fellow with an opportunity to experience and contribute to information security and privacy within a dynamic department and a large public research university. * Hire MUST be located in-state. This position is Hybrid (mix of on-site and remote work; required to work on-site 1 day each week).
