The Expertise Director, Digital Technology leads and enables a high performing, ever advancing, supportive team of digital technology professionals.

Leads diverse client projects, focusing on the automation, deployment, monitoring, and upkeep of software solutions aligned with client specifications. This role involves close collaboration with fellow engineers, project managers, and stakeholders to enhance the quality and efficiency of software development and delivery processes. The Expertise Director is the Digital Technology team lead and staff manager responsible for the career development, training, assessment and hiring of Digital Technology team members..The Director also and oversees the JBS software development lifecycle, as well as our cloud infrastructure, currently within our AWS instances, that make our technical products available to our clients , the public, and users.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The Expertise Director, Digital Technology oversees the DevOps and Development Operations framework, and their work includes the following tasks:

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to team members, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
  • Coach and mentor people managers/supervisors to implement the CEO-S "management playbook."
  • Onboard, retain, and develop top talent within the area of expertise.
  • Coordinate JBS expertise dissemination, advancement, and expansion in coordination with JBS Corporate Communications Office.
  • Oversee management and attainment of employee performance goals.
  • Foster an inclusive environment that promotes diversity, equity, and well-being.
  • Monitors and troubleshoots the performance, availability, and security of the software solutions using various tools and techniques.
  • Oversees the development team to assist in the strategic direction and management of the software delivery lifecycle.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to ensure alignment and seamless integration of software solutions within the broader context of the SDLC and software delivery.
  • Ensures prompt and thorough installation of patches and updates to the full stack solution.
  • Troubleshooting and responding to issues that are escalated to DevOps or SecOps. This may include working with others on the technical team to isolate the source of issue.
  • Common weaknesses enumeration (CWE) mitigation - implementing corrective actions detected during security scans.
  • Threat modeling - implements security testing during the development pipeline to save time and cost in future.
  • Automated security testing - test for vulnerabilities in new builds on regular basis.
  • Leads designs and implementation of mitigations to federal security vulnerabilities discover during continuous monitoring of our managed sites and applications (FISMA and FedRAMP)
  • Works collaboratively in several cross-functional project teams, such as Development and QA.
  • Practices strong and frequent communications with team members, project stakeholders, and client staff.
  • Develops the team's skills and capabilities over time.
  • Management, supervision, appraisal, and recruiting of the Digital team.
  • Supports Business Development (BD) opportunities and proposal development as needed.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science with minimum of 10 years working in Digital, DevOps, Software Development, or Infrastructure Operations, with at least 6 years of experience in Cloud DevOps, and 5 years supervisory experience.

In lieu of a bachelor's degree must have minimum of 15 years of related IT work experience referenced above.

Experience: Based on education level outlined above, the appropriate years of professional experience in DevOps, software development, or related role. Experience in designing and implementing software development and delivery processes using various tools and technologies, such as Jenkins, Docker, Ansible, etc. Experience in working with various environments, platforms, and services, such as cloud, on-premise, or hybrid, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, etc. Experience in working with agile methodologies and tools, such as Scrum, Kanban, Jira, etc. Experience in leading and managing teams responsible for software development, DevOps or, IT infrastructure management. Certification in DevOps from a Cloud Service Provider, such as AWS or Azure.

Knowledge: Excellent understanding of the software development lifecycle, cloud deployments, and security requirements. Understanding of software development scripting languages to support code repositories, continuous deployments, and supporting technical and programming staff developers in expeditious deployments, patches, system maintenance, and continuous monitoring of the full stack cloud solution.

Applied knowledge in the areas of design and development of cloud deployments, including continuous monitoring, and security upkeep with patches and work arounds until patches are made available. Knowledge in delivering support to developers, such as moving code to the various cloud environments. Knowledge of working with federal project staff and OCIO security groups and Technical Review Boards. Must have client-facing know-how in the area of expertise. AWS Certification preferred.

Deep industry knowledge within the technology space, and stays current in this rapidly changing industry. As well as the evolving AWS services and offerings.

Experience in designing, developing, managing, operating, and maintaining cloud deployments in various environments, but especially AWS (GovCloud and Commercial). Proven ability to isolate and troubleshoot technical issues and security related issues. Experience in working as a team member and supporting others in their work. Experience in managing other members of the technical team. Experience in working alone on issues and communicating all relevant information to problem stakeholders. Experience in understanding security landscapes and building strong security postures Experience in mentoring new or less senior DevOps staff, and potential to lead this growing group.

Skills:

  • Strong documentation skills (writing and utilizing) in industry standard tools such as Confluence.
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail; well organized; can determine priority of assigned tasks with minimal guidance and can manage time to ensure tasks are completed on time and at the expected level of quality.
  • Works well with others in a positive, courteous, collaborative, and professional manner; functions well as a member of a cross-functional team and can also work independently, with little supervision.
  • Can handle multiple tasks at various stages and has the flexibility needed to adjust to last-minute requests for information and changing priorities or procedures.
  • Takes initiative; asks questions when appropriate to do so.
  • Takes a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Strong planning skills, developing annual training goals for Expertise-aligned staff.
  • Is able to suggest process improvements that will prevent recurrence of issues in the future. Anticipates potential project risks and implements plans to avoid them - rather than simply mitigating discovered issues.
  • Is able to communicate information as to why things happen and what can be done to avoid repeat future issues.
  • Is verbally articulate and clear in oral and written communication. Has strong documentation skills and habits.
Language: Fluent in English, both written and verbal, to communicate effectively with clients, team members, and stakeholders

Software Proficiency:

All software to support and operate and maintain full stack deployments in the cloud. Understanding of all business office applications to support software engineering tasks including AWS console, Jira, Visio, networking and troubleshooting tools, etc.

LOCATION: If candidate resides within a 50-mile radius of our North Bethesda or San Mateo offices, this will be considered a hybrid role. Otherwise, this is a remote role.

May vary based upon assignment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods at a desk or computer workstation.
  • Regularly uses a computer, keyboard, and mouse.
  • Normal or corrected vision to read documents, view computer screens, and perform tasks that require visual accuracy.
  • Ability to hear and understand spoken information in person and over the phone.
  • Minimal lifting and carrying may be required, typically light office supplies or documents.
  • Ability to move within the office environment to access equipment, files, and interact with colleagues.
  • Ability to handle occasional stress related to deadlines, workloads, or challenging tasks.
