SUMMARY

The Public Safety Maintenance Technician/Custodian is responsible for the general maintenance, cleanliness, performance and inspections of facilities equipment at the Public Safety Training Campus (PSTC). In addition, the employee is responsible for keeping the Weapons Training Facility clean and secure. The Maintenance Technician/Custodian hours will be set but may vary between 0700 and 1900 hours. The Maintenance Technician/Custodian reports to the PSTC Facilities Manager.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Perform general maintenance of facilities, equipment and systems in accordance with diagrams, operation manuals and manufactures specifications.
* Employee will have the responsibility to perform routine cleaning procedures including but not limited to the following: sweep, mop floors, dust/polish furniture and equipment, clean glass at entrance doors, empty wastebasket and remove trash, empty outside trash containers, clean restrooms, restock supplies.
* Monitors overall performance of facility equipment and makes notifications or repairs when appropriate.
* Inspects monitors and reports the need for preventative maintenance and repairs of ventilation systems, premises, supplies and installations within the facility.
* Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn when applicable.
* This position requires operating floor machines, burnishers, and carpet cleaning equipment.
* Perform necessary work related to set up and take down for special events and programs.
* Perform minor plumbing and carpentry tasks.
* Perform snow removal duties by utilizing a plow truck, ATV with plow, shoveling, and spreading rock salt or calcium chloride.
* Litter pickup on the campus grounds.
* Ability to fill out daily work forms.
* Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with administration, Law Enforcement, Fire, EMS Staff, and the general public.
* Always maintains a professional workplace and ensures that the highest degree of customer service skills are utilized without compromise.
* Work independently with little guidance
* Secure the facility as may be needed
* Vacuum facility as may be needed
* Empty all trash containers as may be needed
* Clean all restrooms
* Performs all other duties as assigned with the scope and range of job responsibilities.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education and Credentials
* High School Diploma or equivalent.
* Experience working within a government setting is preferred.
* A valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record, and the ability to maintain it throughout employment is required.
* Must have and maintain FBI clearance, PA Child Abuse and PA State Police Clearances.

Experience and Skills
* 5 years of progressive experience in facility maintenance needed.
* Experience maintaining and repairing HVAC systems preferred but not required.
* Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems.
* Working knowledge of janitorial and maintenance equipment.
* Ability to drive or have reliable transportation to any of the Montgomery County facilities.
* Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
* Ability to work flexible hours.
* Ability to perform basic computer functions including word processing and email usage.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

* Working in an indoor and outdoor environment, in heat and cold.
* Ability to sit, stand and walk for moderate periods of time.
* Ability to work on rooftops and ladders.
* Occasionally it may be required to do Medium Level and/or Heavy Level physical work that would include reaching, walking, pushing, pulling and lifting.
