About the Opportunity
The Accounts Receivable Specialist position is responsible for processing the Accounts Receivable operations for the Authority averaging approximately $10 million in receipts related to multiple programs administered by the Authority. Cash receipts can take the forms of electronic transmissions and downloads, as well as physical checks. Checks are deposited using remote deposit technology. Responsible for processing refund transactions that are received from institutions, as well as refunds due to borrowers upon request from repayment services. The position will be required to analyze and resolve client account issues by communicating effectively with department manager and directors and make system adjustments as required. This position also supports the Program Review functions at SEAA and will perform duties including gathering and organizing data and data entry through the use of Microsoft Office and Adobe programs. Administrative support functions for Program Review also include document management and updating pro forma Program Review documents and ensuring timely completion of tasks and ensuring smooth workflow. Serve as backup for the Accounts Payable position and assisting with other special projects as needed.

This position may be eligible for a hybrid or remote work arrangement, consistent with System Office policy. UNC System employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

The North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority (NCSEAA), an agency of the State of North Carolina, is authorized by the General Assembly to plan, finance and administer student financial assistance programs of a statewide or inter-institutional nature. It serves students attending public and private two- and four-year colleges and universities in North Carolina, as well as families of students attending nonpublic K-12 schools.

About the Team

The Financial Services Division manages the Authority's financial functions, program review oversight, and mail and scanning processes.

Minimum Education, Experience, and Skills
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills
Knowledge of governmental accounting theory and ability to interpret and adhere to policies and procedures as established by the Authority.
Basic knowledge and the ability to learn a variety of financial systems, interfaces, software and other technology needed to complete job duties.
Ability to interpret, understand, and manage moderately complex spreadsheets.
Ability to verify and ensure accuracy of the Authority's deposit and refund transactions. Ability to research items that may be misclassified or sources unknown. This involves the ability to understand the rules, regulations, and operations of the various Authority programs.
Ability to communicate effectively with Authority employees and external parties including banks, repayment services, and borrowers to clarify and resolve issues.
Ability to resolve problems of moderate complexity.
