Controls JOB SUMMARY This position will be expected to know and understand how each piece of equipment operates electrically, be able to maintain and troubleshoot all pieces of equipment back into order, as well as identify root cause analysis eliminating repetitive issues and improving control systems by introducing innovative solutions. This role combines aspects of electrical, electronic, and automation maintenance to ensure that control systems (such as PLCs, HMIs, sensors, VFDs, and other automated equipment) function reliably and efficiently and must comply with all safety policies and procedures including environmental. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Comply with Safety Policies and Procedures
- Design, commission, and provide training concerning electrical control projects as assigned. This is inclusive of electrical loading calculations, panel layouts, BOMs, schematics, flow charts, cabling sheets and software documentation
- During job project progression, supervise electrical panel assembly shops, electrical contractors, and plant electrical personnel
- Recommend needed circuitry modifications to insure not only increased production efficiency, but also increased production personnel safety
- Liaise with regional plant technicians, through regional plant management, to insure an open communication channel of uninterrupted feedback request for technical support
- Ensure proper documentation of all projects, modifications and revisions concerning both hardware and software control aspects within the regional production facilities
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Must possess strong communication and handwriting skills at an engineering level- should be able to explain and document any hardware/software projects as well as problems and solutions
- Computer literate - strong knowledge of computers required, including Microsoft Windows based operating systems, Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project
- Remain current with PLC equipment, software, and practices
- Design and install new electrical circuits or remove obsolete ones, ensuring that all modifications are accurately reflected in updated electrical schematics.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and adjust PLC electrical systems
- Diagnose electrical problems using various meters and related equipment
- Read and understand electrical schematics and blueprints
- Working knowledge of single phase, three phase motor systems and control circuits
- Ability to apply ANSI, IEC and NEMA standards design within the electrical industry
- Knowledgeable of OSHA safety requirements. (29 CFR 1910)
- Strong knowledge of National Electrical Code. (NFPA 70) and Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace (NFPA 70E)
- Strong knowledge of PLC programming including extensive knowledge of GUI, HMI, MMI architecture (Siemens WinCC Flexible, Siemens TIA, AB FactoryTalk View) along with structured programming abilities for various Allen Bradley, Omron, Siemens and GE Fanuc PLC systems using Siemens Step 7 and AB RS Logix 500/5000 as examples.
- Familiarity with VFDs, servo systems, and motion control.
- Experience with industrial control systems and troubleshooting equipment
- Solid knowledge of PLC programming, AC drive configuration and servo systems (Siemens Micro master, AB Power Flex, SimoDrive 611U, SEW IPOS)
- Technical expertise in PLC/HMI communications including Profibus, Device Net, ProfiNet, Industrial Ethernet
- Experience with safety systems and safety components is a plus

- Must be able to work independently
