Job Description
STEM Teacher Credentialed 2025
Position: STEM Teacher Credentialed
Applicant Pool: As needed until positions are filled
Program: Upward Bound
Hourly Rate: $35.00- $40.00

Overview

  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week, non-exempt classification
  • Dates: June 23, 2025 - August 1, 2025 (Six weeks plus training)
    • Possibility of extending employment into the academic school year (Saturday Academy and/or Study Hall)
  • Supervision: Under the supervision of the Director and Component Coordinator
  • Program Participants: Upward Bound students from two high schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District and four high schools in the Pasadena Unified School District

The incumbent will teach High School curriculum in one or more of the following subjects:

  • Mathematics: Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, or Calculus
  • Laboratory Science: Biology, Chemistry, or Physics
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Class Management: Oversee classroom activities and maintain discipline
  • Assessment: Assist in formal and informal assessments of participants' academic deficiencies and make necessary recommendations
  • Curriculum Development: Design and implement curriculum and activities
  • Progress Evaluation: Evaluate and measure participants' academic progress
  • Meetings: Attend meetings and perform other duties as assigned
  • Record-Keeping: Prepare and maintain attendance records
  • Grading: Provide grades for each participant at the end of each week
  • Parent Conferences: Conduct parent conferences as needed
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree and appropriate teaching credentials in a related field from an accredited college or university
Special Desired Requirements
  • Advanced Degrees: A Master's Degree or Doctoral degree is highly desirable
  • Experience: Prior experience working/tutoring high school students preferred
  • Cultural Competency: Must demonstrate an interest or ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment
  • Fingerprinting: Fingerprinting will be taken and checked by the California Department of Justice and FBI
  • Application: A completed UAS employment application is required

The incumbent must demonstrate an interest or ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the UAS. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or the continued employment of current UAS employees who apply for the position.
