Intern - Software Development Engineer in Test

Itron is seeking a SDET intern to join the Distributed Energy Response Optimizer (DERO) team. DERO focuses on optimizing the amount of load on the electrical grid to reduce the need for more power plant energy and to lower the stress on the electrical grid infrastructure. DERO does this through behavioral programs that reward users for taking actions like charging an electric vehicle (EV) at a set time of day. It also provides managed charging programs that allow the utility to run programs where they can shut off charging for participants for a window of time. In addition to EVs, DERO works with photovoltaic systems and batteries to shape the load on the grid.

Duration

40 hours per week during summer 2025. The target start is May/June, and the internship concludes August/September, depending on student academic schedule.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Develop and execute software test plans, test designs, test objectives, and test cases

• Identify, analyze and document defects

• Problem investigation and resolution

• Report on test results and analysis

• Develop automated tests with a focus on the regression testing process

• Assist with feature creation to ensure that the features are understood by development and QA teams

Required Skills & Experience

• Education:Enrolled in an accredited and related degree or training program with completion of at least two years of college-level coursework (Computer Science or Computer Engineering preferred)

• Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions

• At least a year of experience writing JavaScript, Typescript, C# or any other programming language

• Working knowledge of databases

• Working knowledge of version control systems (ideally Git)

• Strong documentation skills

• Professional workplace communication skills

• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a group

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Experience working in an Agile development environment

• Programming experience with front end testing tools like Selenium or Playwright

• Familiarity with Page Object Model or other testing design patterns

• Familiarity or experience with the following technologies: Azure Pipelines, PostgreSQL, JSON, XUnit, HTML, SQL & XML

• Previous internship or co/op experience

Physical Demands

This is a typical office job, with no special physical requirements or unusual work environment.

This position will be tied to our Liberty Lake, WA location with hybrid work flexibility of 1-3 days on-site per week.

Liberty Lake, WA: $15.87 - $44.23 per hour
