SUMMARY
Responsible for supervision of the Analytical Team, including analytical testing of raw materials, in process and finished products, and environmental samples to ensure compliance with quality specifications and execution of projects and investigations. Participate in continuous improvement efforts and projects for efficiency, quality, and safety. Collaborate with other Lab Leaders on projects, processes, and operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Prioritize day to day testing and project workload for the Analytical team, ensuring customer expectations for turnaround time and quality are met.
  • Train and coach Analytical team to achieve optimal performance and advance technical skills.
  • Complete performance reviews, provide constructive feedback and form Action Plans or Goals for the Analytical team.
  • Ensure quality system processes are understood and followed in the Analytical Lab.
  • Investigate and document nonconformances, CAPAs and complaints.
  • Provide guidance, review and/or complete Out of Specification (OOS) investigations.
  • Troubleshoot and provide technical support to Chemists on method, instrument, and equipment issues.
  • Collaborate with Lab Leadership Team to identify and lead continuous improvement and GMP compliance projects, including monitoring and reporting on team capacity and KPI's.
  • Manage method development, validations, and verification, including documentation and reports.
  • Define project tasks, ensure completion by team and mentor Chemists on project methodology.
  • Collaborate and communicate cross-functionally and externally on analytical testing topics and issues.
  • Write, review, approve and revise SOPs for test methods, processes, and equipment.
  • Perform test methods, review data and report results as needed.
  • Maintain neat, accurate, and complete records such that they are defendable through an FDA audit.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This role has supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related field from a four-year College or university; and 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Or an advanced degree in Chemistry or related field from a four-year College or university; and 3+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of terminology, principles and techniques used in analysis and testing; experience with USP, AOAC, etc. methods and analytical instrumentation such as HPLC, GC, LCMS, HPTLC, FTIR, UV-Vis.
  • Knowledge and application of cGMP's, GLP, USP, ISO, and FDA regulations.
  • Knowledge and application of Lean concepts and methodologies.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision is needed.
  • Experience working in a regulated industry a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office is a plus.
  • May involve travel 1-2 times per year.
