Summary of Job Description:

Under the supervision of more seasoned attorneys, the CFT Associate Real Estate Counsel assists in the preparation of real estate leases, purchase agreements, easements, CC&Rs, and other contracts relating to the purchase, development, construction, leasing and property management of commercial property.

You'll get a chance to:

  • Performs a variety of real estate-related legal functions for CFT's Real Estate Legal department; provides legal support to Purchase & Leasing, Construction and Property Management Teams necessary to assess and reduce risk and exposure to the Company associated with new transactions and development.
  • Drafts initial legal documents related to new real estate purchases and development, including, but not limited to, letters of intent, purchase agreements and amendments, REA's, CC&R's, easements, and restrictive covenant agreements.
  • Conducts due diligence reviews and closings for purchases of real estate .
  • Responsible for review of letters of intent and initial drafting and negotiating of lease agreements, amendments and renewals related to leasing of new and existing property portfolio.
  • Prepares or reviews brokerage agreements, SNDAs, and confidentiality agreements.
  • Provides legal counsel to Property Management Team on matters relating to enforcement of lease rights, vendor agreements, third party claims, and other property management related matters.
  • Provides guidance on potential litigation matters, including, but not limited to, tenant breach/eviction, construction related disputes, ADA and other third-party claims.
  • Performs special projects for the CFT Legal, and the Real Estate Development and Investment teams as required; provides learning opportunities and presentations to other departments as requested.

Your background and experience:

  • JD degree and licensed to practice law
  • one to three years of real estate and/or corporate legal experience
  • Successful completion of initial and periodically required trainings.
  • Obtaining a valid Food Handler's Card within 30 days of employment is a requirement of this position.

ADA Statement:

While performing duties, counter areas are often hot with steam from steam table and food vapors. Workspace is restricted and employees are generally expected to remain standing for long periods of time. Employees must prepare hot and cold foods, use Chinese cook knife and other kitchen equipment and work quickly without losing accuracy. Employees must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., stand up to four hours and reach across counter tops measured at 36 inches to serve customers. Kitchens are hot and noise levels are usually high; storage space is limited and shelving is high. Employees must be able to work in a fast-paced work environment, have effective verbal communication skills, ability to adapt to a dynamic environment with changing priorities, and the ability to manage conflicts/difficult situations.
