THE POSITION

Are you a motivated and enthusiastic college student who would enjoy learning and participating in insurance company actuarial analysis within the Pennsylvania Insurance Department? If so, we are excited to welcome an ambitious Actuarial Intern to join the team and work towards enhancing your professional skill set. This opportunity allows you to gain a wealth of knowledge while also assisting with special departmental projects and reports. Within this role, you will rotate between the Bureau of Property and Casualty Insurance and the Bureau of Life, Accident and Health Insurance. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Actuarial Intern, you will participate in on-the-job training to learn about the various functions of the Pennsylvania Insurance Department with specific focus on the analysis and review of property and casualty or life accident and health insurance products. You will also learn about the application of basic actuarial standards, procedures, and laws related to the analysis of property and casualty or life accident and health insurance rates, rating procedures, rating plans, schedules, rules, and policies. This position affords the opportunity to research, compile, and assist with the analysis of property and casualty or life accident and health insurance statistics, laws, and policy language for special projects to include data calls, surveys, presentations, training materials, and summaries that support testimony, consumer education, press releases, and actuarial and policy decisions.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Potential part-time or full-time internship, 25 to 37.5 hours per week.
  • This internship runs from May through August 2025.
  • Work schedule will be flexible within the hours of 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, and in alignment with the supervisor/work unit.
  • Parking is provided by the agency.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Internship Requirements:

  • Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program.
  • Spring of 2025 graduates may also be considered for this program.
  • Enrolled in an actuarial science, data science, finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, or related program.
  • Good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher).

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
