Scope of Work: The Woodworker provides necessary support to the NASA - Deep Space Network facility and mission.

Responsibilities:

  • Constructs and repairs items such as boxes, crates, pallets, and storage bins from wood and wood substitutes.
  • Studies specifications, measures, marks, and cuts boards, using patterns, templates, rulers, pencils, and hand and power saws.
  • Fastens or installs parts using a hammer, nailing machine, or power staple;
  • Repairs defective containers by replacing damaged parts, and inserting wood bracings, cardboard files, and felt pads in containers.
  • May build a crate around an object using a ruler, hand tools, and a pneumatic nail gun.
  • May fabricate, repair, modify, and replace woodwork on vehicle sides and beds, and apply preservatives to prolong wood life.
  • May pack, seal, band, and apply markings to crates and containers.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Consistently produces quality products and services.
  • Completes all training within the required timeline.
  • Performs all work in a safe and secure manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Up to 2 years of related experience is required.
  • High School Diploma is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Must maintain licenses and/or credentials required for this position.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English.
  • Must possess the ability to interact well with others in a team setting ability or alone and be able to change jobs on short notice.
  • Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities.
  • Work Schedule is a 9/80: 80 hours over 9 days, with every other Friday off. (Mon - Thur is 9 hours, every other Fri is 8 hours)
  • Highly motivated, flexible organized and must be detail oriented.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to maintain ability to access government worksite.
  • Must have practical knowledge of worksite safety, occupational hazards, and standard safety practices.
  • Must be able to perform duties under adverse weather conditions (extreme cold / heat, etc.). Outside work in winter, summer, rain, sleet, and snow and on uneven terrain - side hills and slopes.
  • Must be able to work alternate and extended shift schedules when necessary to meet the customer's mission requirements, including weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to perform on-call duties when necessary and report to work within the required timeframe from notification.
  • Must have and maintain a valid state driver's license to operate a company vehicle.
  • Must have a safe driving record, as defined by Company policy, to operate a company vehicle.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a drug/alcohol test and a criminal record check.
