Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 15 years of demonstrated leadership; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 13 years of demonstrated leadership.

Department of Defense TS/SCI security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship and a counterintelligence and/or full-scope polygraph is required.


Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Strategy and Business Development Director to enable General Dynamics to position for new and emerging multiple domain missions more effectively. The position provides an opportunity to enhance the performance and profitability of an organization that supports some of our nation's fundamental defense services. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

General Dynamics is looking for an experienced Business Development Director to develop and execute spaceborne avionics and payload strategies and priorities by identifying and opening new paths to market and expanding current business initiatives and relationships with our customers. Duties would include: Overall responsibility to meet new business orders commitment and lead a team of Business Development professionals supporting the Space Systems business area, identifying and shaping capture/new business opportunities within the Department of Defense and other national security departments and agencies, perform review & analysis of customer budgets and acquisition plans, own and maintain responsibility for new business funnel, participate in and foster discussions with government personnel to understand and shape acquisition strategies, and think outside of the box in ways that will move our business into new frontiers.


The incumbent will report to the vice president of Strategy and Business Development but directly support the Space System business Area Director and be a part of the daily business cadence to ensure clear communications with our customers, plan and develop business strategies for growth, and provide capture leadership in support of new business objectives.


REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

  • Develops & implements mission level strategies, roadmaps, and cohesive integrated plans for portfolio to meet business and program objectives relating to orders, margin, and time-to-market for payloads, avionics, and missions.
  • Prepares and presents program/product status to leadership and external customers. Participates and leads the development/execution of strategies, to improve the competitiveness of the organization through actions such as professional growth & development, strategic hiring, strategic partnering, and acquisitions.
  • Manages people who lead department or cross-functional program teams to achieve schedule, cost, and technical performance objectives.
  • Assists in the formulation of advertising campaigns and approves publicity releases and promotional activities
  • Evaluates and manages new business opportunities, initiatives, partnerships, alliances and/or joint ventures
  • Develops, defines and executes capture plans, schedules, budgets and deliverables
  • Interfaces with customers on technical matters regarding program/products and customer requirements
  • Develops customer relationships and develops new business within the market/program
  • Identifies market/scope changes and develops product/program positions for costs/price and feature changes or equitable cost/schedule adjustments
  • Provide keen insight and recommendations into the IRAD project nomination cycle.
  • Delegates assignments to others for developing solutions
  • Develop and manage the business area's New Business Fund (NBF) budgets accountable to the business area Director
  • Develops and manages BD personnel to ensure efficient operation


KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Tremendous knowledge of space qualified products and technologies including for use in current and potential USG applications across almost all mission domains
  • Strong familiarity and understanding of business development and capture
  • Detailed knowledge of target customer markets
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Serve as capture manager for critical opportunities
  • Ability to prepare and present briefs to executive leadership that are articulate and provide clear and concise messaging
  • Tremendous knowledge of government contracting practices and regulations regarding acquisition
  • Ability to develop and execute proposal plans and strategies
  • Required to travel 25%


PREFERRED DEGREE TYPES AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Engineering Degree
  • Understanding of Mission Level Design and Implementation
  • Specific background in US Space Force and Intelligence Community Space Systems and their implementation in current and emerging missions.


Target salary range: USD $222,815.00/Yr. - USD $241,093.00/Yr. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.
