Position Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine, a Senior Programmer Analyst is a valuable member of our Lab IT Team. The candidate will support the technology solutions used in the Stony Brook University Hospital Laboratory. The candidate will support Laboratory applications, instrument integration, and workflows. The candidate will demonstrate superior communication and organizational skills, adhering to our high standard of excellence. The candidate will work closely with Lab leadership, Hospital IT and vendors in order to ensure that Lab systems and interfaces to the EMR and automated testing platforms meets the needs of the department and the hospital while conforming to all applicable regulatory requirements.

Duties of a Senior Programmer Analyst - Lab IT may include the following but are not limited to:



  • This is a diverse position; the applicant must supply support and maintain operations of the Laboratory information systems, its integrated applications, and associated interfaces with an understanding of integration between systems with the goal of as close to 100% uptime as possible. This includes daily performance and error monitoring, vendor coordination for upgrades, scheduled recycles and troubleshooting. Schedule changes to be moved to production and validate to ensure successful outcome.
  • Support users with the identification and resolution of application problems.
  • Escalate major issues and work closely with vendors and internal resources to resolve open issues.
  • Ensure systems are up to date with regular upgrades. Perform testing of system upgrades, includes thorough unit and integration testing. Escalate and keep management informed of status.
  • Application development for laboratory systems to meet departmental specifications. Must be able to communicate with the laboratory staff, prepare specifications, and implement an appropriate design that meets workflow needs.
  • Manage implementation projects for new products or upgrades as required by the laboratory needs. Manage task lists for team members, maintain project notes and plans, and monitor project progress to adhere to timelines.
  • Track changes and maintain documentation.
  • Successful implementation of new instrument interfaces.
  • Provide training as needed for users. - Review, update and prepare laboratory documentation of procedures to meet regulatory guidelines.
  • Liaise with other SBUH IT staff on institutional projects including Networking, Security, System Administration, and the Interface team.
  • Backup support for computer hardware and devices.
  • Ability to prioritize relevant tickets based on department needs.
  • Assist in developing documentation including training guides, installation instructions, down time and other application policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to all SBUMC policies and procedures.
  • Provide rotational on-call support.
  • Adherence to hospital wide security initiatives to provide a secure computing environment, application of all software updates within this environment, as well as maintenance and implementation of new and existing PC technologies.
  • Mentor junior Lab IT staff and oversee projects and implementations.



Qualifications

Required:



  • Bachelor's degree in related field and minimum 3 years experience.
  • In lieu of a BS or BA degree, A.A.S. with minimum 5 years of experience.
  • Minimum 3 years as a Medical Technologist, Cytotechnologist, and/or Histotechnologist.
  • Knowledge and 2 year's experience (super user, training experience, some database skills) with a laboratory information system.
  • Competency with computer applications, e.g. Microsoft Office (word, excel, access and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to learn quickly and multitask in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve interface and technical issues.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Must be detail oriented and have strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment are essential.



Preferred:



  • NYS Licensure as a Medical Technologist or Technician
  • Clinical laboratory experience in a hospital setting
  • ASCP or equivalent certification
  • System support of Lab or Blood Bank information systems, preferably LIS support, development, and testing experience on the Clinisys systems.
  • Experience with online instrumentation and laboratory automation.
  • A high level of experience with HL7. - Knowledge of SBUMC Department of Laboratories' processes and/or systems.

  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services*
  • Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen*
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

*The hiring department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position is $ 87872 - $ 118262 / year.

The above salary range represents SBUH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate's validated years of comparable experience. Any efforts to inflate or misrepresent experience are grounds for disqualification from the application process or termination of employment if hired.

Some positions offer annual supplemental pay such as:



  • Location pay for UUP, CSEA & PEF full-time positions ($3400)
