Saw Operator
Primary Job Duties:
Set up, operate, or tend machines to saw, cut, shear, slit, punch, crimp, notch, bend, or straighten metal material.
- Operate two Spartan Saws (listed below), cutting material to size.
- Hydmech H-22A
- Hydmech H-32A
- Read prints to determine product specifications or materials requirements.
- Set equipment controls to meet cutting specifications.
- Set blade tensions, heights, and angles to perform prescribed cuts.
- Read print or schematic to determine specifications, such as materials to be used, locations of cutting lines, or dimensions and tolerances.
- Position guides, stops, holding blocks, or other fixtures to secure and direct workpieces, using hand tools and measuring devices.
- Turn controls to set cutting speeds table angles for specified operations.
- Place workpieces on cutting tables, manually or using hoists or crane.
- Cut pieces to conform to specifications, using micrometers, gauges, calipers, templates, or rulers.
- Set up, operate, or tend to saw to cut, shear, slit, punch, crimp, notch, bend, or straighten metal material.
- Test and adjust machine speeds or actions, according to product specifications, using gauges and hand tools.
- Grind out burrs or sharp edges, using portable grinders, speed lathes, or polishing jacks.
- Replace defective blades or wheels, using hand tools and LOTO procedures.
- Measure dimensions of completed products or workpieces to verify conformance to specifications.
- Operate forklifts to deliver materials.
- Operate overhead cranes.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Previous heavy equipment saw experience.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics.
- Detail-oriented and consistent.
- Works well as a productive member of a team as well as independently.
- Basic ability in mathematics, reading, or writing.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods standing and performing repetitive tasks.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds on a regular basis; lift 50# on occasion.
- Must have manual dexterity to manipulate heavy equipment including bending, stooping, and reaching.
- Must have excellent hand-eye coordination.
- Must wear safety glasses, gloves, metatarsal safety boots, and ear protection.
