Reports to the Plant Manager

Job dimensions

  • Provides process and project engineering support to maximize operational efficiency , continuously identify, evaluate, and implement opportunities to improve safety, quality, cost, and capacity.
  • Collaborate with technical staff, business group, corporate technology and consultants to ensure product quality and customer focused support
  • Support plant day to day processes including batch management and manual operations to ensure safety in all aspects of operation
  • Backup for Production Supervisor

Activities

Plant Process Support 60%

  • Subject Matter Expert for all plant manufacturing processes and equipment
  • Regularly engage with operators on the plant floor to learn, optimize and troubleshoot process
  • Provide training for operators
  • Create, review and update SOP's, batch sheets and other procedures to drive standardization of all process operations
  • Maintain the technical process knowledge for the facility and the product line including SAP recipe management
  • Support PLC system
  • Support the plant in the management of product quality and others quality issues including root cause analysis

Process Safety 20%

  • Site Process Safety Champion
  • Ensure safety critical equipment is in good working order and psi documentation is up to date (e.g. PRV inventory/calculations, Critical Interlock checks)
  • Manage site asset mechanical integrity program.
  • Co-manage MOC process to document and control process changes

Safety and Health10%

  • Lead the development of a site-level process safety program. Complete gap assessment, action planning, and implementation of improvements. Elements include incident investigation, MOC, and process hazard analysis.
  • Complete Occupational Risk Assessments to define and mitigate risk of employee exposure and physical safety in daily tasks.
  • Spend time on the plant floor to ensure safe operation and propose actions to improve safety and reduce environmental risks.
  • Support and promote HES reporting and investigations at the site

Process Development 10%

  • Lead small CAPEX projects from concept, feasibility, design, and execution including knowledge of Stage-Gate Process
  • Assist with large CAPEX as needed
  • Organize industrial trials allowing the feasibility studies of the new products, projects, approval of new materials, new suppliers, at the best cost while ensuring the quality of the products.
  • Coordinate at the site the variable cost and energy improvement programs in support of corporate initiatives
  • Other duties as required

Context and environment

  • This role is based in the Columbus, Ohio Facility and remotely supports a small site in White City, Oregon
  • The job involves the ability to climb stairs and ladders, wearing a PAPR respirator, work in an industrial environment requiring FRC and other PPE in addition to time spent in the office
  • Comply with all regulatory requirements, industry best practices and internal policies
  • Travel to vendors, corporate offices and other plants may be required (typical <5% of time)
  • On-Call plant support required both for operations and PLC. The plant currently operates 16 hours x 5 days per week, and very occasional Saturdays.

QUALIFICATIONS/experience required

  • BS Engineering required; Chemical Engineer preferred
  • 3+ years' experience in chemical manufacturing environment required
  • Experience with Process Safety Management preferred
  • Experience with SAP and PLC systems preferred
