ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS MAY INCLUDE:



  • Operate in a 24x7x365 Network Operations Center; this includes shift work, 1st, 2nd and 3rd shift hours, and weekends


  • Constant monitoring of the Metronet network.
  • Take ownership or each incident and perform escalations where required
  • Identifying and responding to network alerts, troubleshooting issues, and taking corrective actions to minimize downtime. Communicate Network Event alerts and updates to internal Metronet teams and executives.
  • Communicates daily with multiple departments within Metronet, other telecommunication providers and vendors to discuss and coordinate troubles/outages and projects.
  • Analyze network logs and system behavior to diagnose the root cause of network problems and implement solutions.
  • Direct involvement with engineering groups and vendors to track and implement restoration efforts.
  • Perform and interpret industry standard tests such as RFC2544, y.1564, y.1731 and BER testing.
  • Provide 2nd level support for Tier 1 groups and work internal and external escalations drive issues to resolution.
  • Perform other duties assigned by NOC Management team



JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:




    • Strong understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, routing protocols)
    • Intermediate Knowledge of the OSI Model.
    • Intermediate knowledge of Network Equipment configuration and troubleshooting
    • Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills
    • Ability to work under pressure, make quick decisions and prioritize work while multi-tasking
    • Effective communication skills to interact with technical and non-technical teams
    • Basic knowledge of Telecommunications best practices and principles.
    • Experience with PON/GPON based services is Desired.
    • Must have a knowledge of the OSI model.
    • Flexibility to work additional shifts where required.
    • Experience with Nokia, and Adtran PON equipment




Key Competencies: Good computer and written/verbal communications skills, solve problems effectively, possess the ability to take on new, demanding challenges, demonstrate the ability to assume new levels of responsibility and deal effectively with other people.

Education: 2- or 4-year technical degree and/or equivalent training. Associate degree or bachelor's degree preferred but not required. Vendor certifications preferred but not required. CCNA/ JNCIA/MEF/ALU Certifications a plus.

Experience: 2-5 years of experience pertaining to the telecommunications/IT industry.
