Job Summary

Milwaukee Recreation is seeking a dedicated and highly qualified park Crew Lead professional to assist with the supervision, training, and assigning of work for a team of 30 part-time seasonal staff. Primary responsibilities include staff supervision, training, work delegation, maintenance support, and facility inspections. The ideal candidate is capable of leading and supervising employees, teaching and mentoring staff, and maximizing efficiencies and productivity.

Pay: $18.50

Hours: 40 hours

Qualifications

  • At least 18 years of age or a high school graduate at time of application.
  • Good physical condition. Seasonal Groundskeepers must be able to lift more than 50 pounds for long periods of time.
  • Candidates must possess a valid State of Wisconsin motor vehicle operations license at time of appointment and throughout employment. Candidates must have a good driving record. Driving records will be checked prior to job offer.
  • Candidates must pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Candidates must sign a release authorizing the City to receive the results of any drug and alcohol tests conducted by previous employers during the past two years if those tests were required by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
  • This is a highly physical job, primarily working outdoors during the spring and summer months.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience operating lawn equipment including mowers and trimmers.
  • Ability to drive trucks with trailers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to read and interpret maintenance and repair manuals. Knowledge of basic math.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work independently.
  • Ability to maintain outdoor athletic fields and work from ladders, and elevated positions.
  • Ability to transfer objects weighing 50 pounds or more.
  • Ability to drive and operate vehicles including dump trucks, tractors, and pickup trucks.
Responsibilities

  • Athletic field maintenance
  • Athletic field and court preparation; grass cutting and trimming, field layout and line marking.
  • Daily inspection and cleaning of recreation site field houses and grounds.
  • Inspection and minor repair to tot lot equipment, bleacher and player bench boards, tennis nets, and wind screens.
  • Operation of various lawn and garden equipment and small trucks.
  • Tree pruning and watering.
  • Graffiti removal and painting

Essential Functions:

  • Plans, coordinates, manages, and supervises the inspection and maintenance of Milwaukee Recreations playfields and recreation facilities.
  • Supervises, evaluates and provides performance feedback to part-time Groundskeepers.
  • Coordinates with the Manager of Recreation Facilities to plan employee workloads and prioritize projects.
  • Assists in developing solutions to provide safe, clean, and aesthetically pleasing recreation facilities for community use.
  • Provides support to staff as needed to assist with performing maintenance tasks.
  • Monitors inventories and assures that adequate materials, supplies, and tools are available.
  • Reports and resolve safety conditions and security concerns.
  • Assists with Recreation Department activities as needed.
  • Actively supports the Five Priorities for Success.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
