Veeco's process equipment solutions enable the manufacture of LEDs, displays, power electronics, hard drives, compound semiconductors, MEMS, semiconductors advanced packaging and wireless chips. We are the market leader in MOCVD, MBE, Ion Beam, Wet Etch single wafer processing and other advanced thin film process technologies. Veeco has an opening in San Jose, CA for a skilled and experienced Electrical Engineer to participate in the delivery of NPD and CIP work for semiconductor capital equipment. The candidate can alternatively report into our Plainview, NY office. This role provides AC power distribution design and troubleshooting, motion control and robotics, specification and incorporation of OEM power supplies and controllers, and many other areas of design.

Responsibilities:



  • Design and maintain electrical systems for ion beam deposition equipment, including RF sources, high power DC, and control systems.
  • Develop and integrate control algorithms for precise operation of ion beam sources and deposition processes.
  • Develop and optimize AC power distribution networks that ensure safe and efficient energy delivery.


  • Architect systems and program PLCs for control and automation of semiconductor process systems.
  • Ensure designs comply with all relevant electrical and safety standards, including SEMI S2.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in control systems to minimize customer downtime.


  • Design and implement safety systems that adhere to industry standards and regulations.
  • Perform risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for electrical systems.
  • Conduct testing and validation of electrical components and systems for performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain and troubleshoot electrical and RF systems.
  • Create and maintain documentation for electrical designs, processes, and safety protocols.
  • Work closely with mechanical engineers, software developers, and process engineers to perform design reviews and enhance performance of developed systems.
  • Contribute to research and development initiatives to improve ion beam deposition technology.
  • Stay updated on advancements in RF, control systems, and deposition technologies to enable develop of innovative solutions.



Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of related experience or a Master's degree and a minimum of 3 years of experience is required.

Direct commercial experience working with semiconductor capital equipment or in a similar technical field is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:

Proficiency with analog/digital circuit design, including schematic design, layout, testing, and release.

Experience with RF supplies and inductively coupled plasma.

Experience with DC power supply design.

Experience with electrical interface design.

Capability to create and troubleshoot electrical schematics.

A critical thinker, always anticipating holistic system effects of localized design decisions, challenging design concepts and analyzing best alternatives.

Ability to multi-task and work with a cross-functional team in a matrixed organization.

Hands on experience with lab equipment, including logic analyzers and oscilloscopes.

Experience with vacuum equipment and robotics preferred.

CE, UL, TUV, and RoHS regulatory experience preferred.

Experience with designing equipment used in a cleanroom environment a plus.

Motion control and PLC experience a plus.

Experience with electronics subsystem design, such as schematic capture, printed circuit board layout and board assembly prototyping a plus.

Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.

Can anticipate and resolve roadblocks.

Proficient in MS Office applications, including MS Project or similar.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

The expected salary range for this position is $116,915 - 148,092.65, plus bonus opportunity. When determining your pay, we will consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors.
