About the Role

The California Market Leader for Transportation holds regional market leadership, sales performance, and business growth responsibility for DEA's Transportation Business Unit (TBU). This role is for a strategic leader and business builder-someone who understands the competitive landscape, forges deep client relationships, and drives sustainable revenue growth.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Growth and Business Development

  • Drive revenue growth by securing new work, expanding market share, and building backlog.

  • Serve as a Client Leader for key clients, ensuring DEA is their trusted partner.

  • Lead business development efforts to capture strategic transportation infrastructure opportunities.

  • Develop and execute 12-month rolling pipeline forecasts to ensure sustainable market growth.

Client and Market Leadership

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and agency partners across the California transportation market.

  • Guide and mentor Client Leaders to strengthen DEA's presence and ensure market expansion.

  • Enhance DEA's brand visibility and reputation through active engagement in industry organizations and conferences.

Operational and Team Leadership

  • Lead the regional Client Leaders team, fostering a high performing, engaged workforce.

  • Provide strategic leadership to Delivery Leaders, ensuring high-quality project execution and client satisfaction.

  • Champion DEA's values and culture, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.

  • Identify and mitigate business risks, ensuring financial and operational excellence.

What Success Looks Like

  • Achievement of regional sales targets in new work, backlog growth, and invoiced net fees

  • A strong 12-month rolling sales pipeline that reflects market sustainability

  • High client satisfaction and retention, reinforcing DEA as a top-tier transportation partner

  • Growth in California market share through strategic expansion

  • Strong technical quality and project delivery, ensuring DEA's reputation for excellence

  • A high performing, engaged team with low turnover and a strong culture

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, urban and regional planning, or a related field

  • Licensed professional engineer (PE) in California or ability to obtain licensure; AICP certification is a plus

  • 12+ Years of experience in transportation project leadership, with expertise in roadway, highway, transit, or bridge projects

  • Proven track record of winning and delivering transportation projects in California, with strong client relationships

  • Extensive experience working with regional transportation agencies, and local municipalities.

  • Strong financial and business acumen, with experience in sales forecasting and business development strategy

  • Demonstrated leadership ability in mentoring teams, guiding client leaders, and fostering professional growth

  • The anticipated salary range for this position is $250,000 - $325,000 and is based on applicable experience and work location.
