Job Description Summary |
Under the direction of the Director of Financial Aid, the
Assistant Director of Financial Aid will be responsible for advising, determining aid eligibility, aid administration and required reporting for a defined caseload of students. Primary oversight of Pell and Teach Grant programs. Primary oversight of Federal work study programs. Primary oversight of federal standards of satisfactory academic progress standards. Primary oversight of veteran financial aid offers. Primary oversight of outside scholarships. |
Essential Functions |
- Provide advising on financial aid eligibility, application procedures, aid programs, cost of attendance, loan selection, money management, satisfactory academic progress, scholarship renewal and study abroad opportunities for an assigned caseload.
- Analyze and evaluate financial aid applicants to determine financial need and offer financial aid.
- Responsible for verifying tax documents, citizenship documents and other required materials.
- Perform needs analysis and aid offer for veteran population. Work closely with the veteran enrollment coordinator.
- Primary responsibility for the overall administration of federal Pell grant and Teach grant programs.
- Responsible for understanding and applying a thorough knowledge of federal regulations governing these programs.
- Responsible for the import, loading into Powerfaids, export and reviewing subsequent ISIR transactions and reconciliation of these programs.
- Primary oversight of federal satisfactory academic progress standards.
- Monitor pace and GPA on a per term basis.
- Work closely with the academic standing committee and academic advisors to review and provide feedback on student's progress.
- Review students appeals for continued financial aid.
- Use professional judgment in determining if appeals will be granted and academic probation terms.
- Exercise professional, independent judgment to evaluate eligibility for financial aid, make revisions to cost of attendance, assess special conditions and dependency status.
- Make recommendations for financial aid assistance.
- Coordinate the federal work study program with Payroll and IT.
- Import biweekly CWS earnings for all enrolled students into Powerfaids updating student employment earnings to track and reconcile YTD earnings.
- Responsible for annual reporting to COD.
- Maintain a thorough working knowledge of federal, state, and institutional regulations through professional development opportunities.
- Maintain and update program policies and procedures as needed.
- Represent the financial aid office at on-campus and at selected off-campus events

Required Education, Experience, Technology Applications and Skills |
- Required: Bachelor degree.
- Required: 1-3 years financial aid experience
- Powerfaids experience preferred.
- Knowledge of Federal Title IV student financial aid programs and regulations.
- Must be detail oriented with problem solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Presentation skills.

- Preferred: Master's degree.
- Preferred: 2 - 5 years financial aid experience

Supervisory Responsibilities |
- May provide oversight for one or more student workers, including graduate assistants.

- Prolonged periods of sitting, moderate computer use, and occasional lifting or moving of light objects

- Proficiency with typical office equipment is necessary for this role, including computers, printers, scanners, telephones, and photocopiers.
