Position Purpose
The Payroll Senior Accounting and NRA Analyst is responsible for accurate and timely accounting for payroll processing in a complex payroll environment, identifying and resolving reconciling items, and assisting with internal and external audit requests. This position is also responsible for managing foreign national nonresident alien ( NRA) payroll taxation processes and administration of the Sprintax Calculus determination and reporting system.

Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp Bachelors plus 3-5 years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Five years of payroll accounting support or other directly related experience in an academic setting.
  • Team/collaborative approach and customer service experience preferred.
  • Advanced problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including macros.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks with excellent attention to detail
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with strong customer service and listening skills across a diverse population
  • Self-starter who takes initiative and exercises sound judgment
  • Familiarity with taxation of international students and employees or demonstrated ability to learn
  • Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse population

Preferred Qualifications
  • American Payroll Association certification preferred.

Key Accountabilities


Description
Accounting

  • Create and process General Ledger journal entries to ensure timely and accurate reporting of Payroll data, including monthly, bi-weekly and students payrolls, cash movement, and ADP tax remittance information for all federal and state filings.
  • Perform and review analyses of Payroll General Ledger accounts; identify and resolve reconciling items and accounting issues on a timely basis.
  • Coordinate information requests for internal and external audits.
  • Assist with year-end balancing and reconciliation of payroll and W-2 reporting.
  • Provide auditing support as needed.
  • Assist as needed with system testing to ensure accurate accounting of new payroll elements and processes.

Description
Foreign National (NRA) Payroll Management

  • Act as the primary payroll contact for NRAs to assist individuals in following Dartmouth's policies and procedures related to tax withholding and compliance.
  • Manage the tax treaty process, including eligibility, confirming tax treaty status, following renewal processes and managing communication.
  • Responsible for auditing, correcting and preparing data to be included in Form 1042 and 1042-S tax filings. Perform regular audits of the data to ensure completeness and consistency.
  • Lead the 1042-S reporting process, including distribution and filing of returns.
  • Responsible for responding to NRA inquiries in a timely manner.

Payroll Support

  • Act as backup for issuing manual checks and payroll processing when needed to assure adequate coverage.
  • Assist with maintaining standard operating procedures for the payroll team and payroll website.
  • Responsible for publishing payroll dashboards on a quarterly basis.
