How big is the project and how thick is the steel? We build things most companies can't even move!

Broadwind Energy has two openings in our Abilene plant for a Fitter/Welder II in Circ. We are busy and that's good. One position is on our C Shift - 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday ($4.50/hr shift diff). The other position is on A-Shift, which is 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Interested? RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (May include some or all of the following responsibilities)


  • Must meet all Welder I criteria
  • Use of blue prints, tape measure, and mathematical skills
  • Inspect part prior to fit and ensure proper alignment
  • Ensure orientation of part is correct
  • Visually inspect part prior to fitting to ensure proper conformance
  • Visually inspect joint for cleanliness and depth
  • Fit parts, while keeping within specification
  • Weld flat and horizontal GMAW
  • Weld flat horizontal and vertical flux core
  • Clean part after welding
  • Operate overhead crane; Properly inspect rigging equipment and use proper rigging technique
  • Complete operator sign-off
  • Record job and section in time matrix
  • Follow all EHS policies in order to work safely; fully engage in behavioral based safety initiatives
  • Support all continuous improvement initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Academic/Experience/Credentials/Certifications


  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1 year of related welding experience or, completion of a welder's training program or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Overhead crane after certification (can be completed after hire)
  • Candidate must be able to pass a Jaeger J2 vision test.

Specialized Skills/Knowledge/Ability


  • Must be able to complete and pass weld qualification test(s)
  • Able to read and follow all weld work instructions and consistently weld within parameters
  • Ability to weld with up to 1/16 weld wire
  • Ability to use air arc process

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend documents including technical information and blueprints. Ability to speak effectively before employees and as a representative of the Company.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Strong ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several variables at the same time.

Considerable use of the arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, stooping and handling structural material is required. The employee must have the ability to keep hands and arms steady while moving your arm or while holding the hand and arm in one position. The employee must have the ability to quickly move and must be able to grasp with two hands. The employee must have the ability to use the abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without giving out or fatiguing. The employee may occasionally lift and or move up to 80 pounds or more with assistance. Employee may be exposed to weld dust or fumes as a part of the welding process. Exposed to noise while in the manufacturing environment. May be exposed to hot, cold or humidity while external doors are opened or when going from one building to another.
