JOB TITLE:

Assistant Professor - College of Law

JOB PURPOSE:

The University of Wyoming College of Law is pleased to announce that it is currently seeking to hire an Assistant Professor to manage and teach its Defender Aid Clinic, the law school's oldest clinic! This position will be tenure-track with duties commencing in Summer or Fall 2025. For this position, we are seeking an entry-level or pre-tenure lateral professor to direct the law school's Defender Aid Clinic, including supervising students in a live-clinic setting.

The Defender Aid Clinic provides critical pro bono legal representation to individuals in Wyoming's criminal legal system. As one of the only entities in Wyoming providing pro bono post-conviction representation, the Defender Aid Clinic has historically focused on post-conviction and parole proceedings, innocence cases, motions for sentence reduction, and appeals. The incoming faculty director will have discretion over the future caseload and direction of the Defender Aid Clinic going forward, provided that the Clinic maintains a primarily docket manageable in the law school clinic setting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage and Teach for the Defender Aid Clinic
  • Teach up to two additional courses, such as appellate advocacy and/or a special topics course (sentencing, rehabilitation, or a policing course), depending on curricular needs
  • Maintain active scholarly research and professional development
  • Advise and mentor students
  • Provide service to the department, college, and university

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the United States, as sponsorship for work authorization or work visas is not available for this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Hold a Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school.
  • Candidates must be licensed attorneys
  • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • At least three years' experience working as public defenders or as defense counsel in criminal cases are preferred
  • Experience with teaching, research, and scholarship at a university level
  • Strong communication skills are required.
  • Member of the Wyoming Bar
