General Notes
  • Occasional (i.e., 2-4 times/year) weekend or evening work required

  • Travel for funder meetings and events as appropriate

Purpose

This position will support the Charles A. Dana Center's mission of ensuring student success in their mathematics, science, and early literacy education,. The Assistant Director of Development will coordinate and support the implementation of the Center's fundraising strategic plan. This plan includes all operational aspects of the fundraising process through proposals, grant management, relationship building, and donor stewardship to achieve financial and programmatic goals.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the development, writing, submission, and reporting for a diverse grant portfolio of over $15 million, including foundations (both solicited LOI's and RFP's), relationship-based opportunities, federal and state grants, and corporate foundations. Conduct research to identify funding prospects and open awards that align with the Center's strategic priorities. Work collaboratively with the Center's operations team, including finance, project management, communications, and technology; Center development staff; Center leadership; program staff and subject matter experts; and development colleagues across UT to conceptualize proposals and to develop reports.

  • Maintain and steward current donors, including relationship building, strategy, fundraising event strategy, site visits, and prospective pipeline development and maintenance. Identify and secure meetings for Center leadership with foundation prospect executives and program staff. Monitor proposal deadlines and manage proposal submissions. Manage and implement appeals throughout the year. Be a spokesperson and advocate for the Center's mission by participating in networking events, giving presentations, and supporting the University and College of Natural Sciences in their donor relationships

  • Manage, support, and develop the Center's three-person development team to achieve the Center's mission, vision, and strategic goals. With the operations team, develop and implement effective process and ensure efficiencies and transparency across work streams. Create a workplace that allows team to work nimbly too deadline-driven proposals or reports

  • Provide analysis and make recommendations for foundation, federal and state, and corporate solicitation to Center leadership. Use fundraising databases and prospecting tools. Maintain electronic documentation including donor and prospective funder tracking, funder reporting and other related information. Ensure proactive communications among stakeholders

  • Develop a deep understanding of current fundraising priorities. Support current and future advisory boards who raise funds and awareness of the Center and its mission, opportunities, major initiatives, and areas of need.

  • Participate in processes and activities designed to establish an organizational culture that supports learning, collaboration, and collective responsibility in order to enhance professional relationships, job satisfaction, and organizational effectiveness.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, communications, business, marketing, public relations, or related field

  • A minimum of 5 years professional relevant experience in fundraising/donor relations, grant writing success, and management of grant reports and proposals; organizing and implementing such activities as: major gifts, annual gifts, and special events; developing and conceptualizing services/programs in collaboration with varied stakeholders; or submitting reports to donors as well as private/public funders

  • Highly effective communication skills (written, verbal, presentation)

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with a focus on a diplomatic and collaborative working style

  • Demonstrated experience in managing people and projects

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proven experience managing a complex fundraising program with a reputation for quality and excellence

  • Willingness to collaborate with a team and work cross-functionally with all levels of an organization

  • Highly entrepreneurial, self-motivated, resourceful, and flexible

  • CFRE, CNFP Certification

  • Adept at planning, prioritizing, organizing and following through while remaining focused

  • Willing to work hands-on in developing and executing a variety of fundraising activities

  • Ability to use discretion and maintain integrity

  • Experience with the UT VIP database or other similar system for donor record management and performance ticketing/CRM, Smartsheet, and UT Box or similar file sharing tools

Salary Range
  • $110,000 - $120,000
