Job Summary

Loudoun County Fire and Rescue is seeking qualified applicants for a regular, full-time position as an EMS Clinical Coordinator based out of the Oliver Robert Dube Training Academy in Leesburg, VA. This position is responsible for organizing, overseeing, and scheduling quality clinical learning experiences for EMS students in our ALS and BLS programs.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Act as the Clinical Coordinator as required by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). Develop program competencies aligned with applicable standards. Serve as the liaison to clinical sites and resolve any student-related conflicts in the clinical environment.
* Evaluate student performance during clinical experiences in an ongoing manner and communicate student progress to the Program Dean, Director and/or Course Coordinator. In conjunction with program faculty, develop student competencies that outline expected clinical learning outcomes.
* Ensure clinical affiliate agreements/contracts meet the organization's needs and comply with appropriate accreditation requirements.
* Maintain Department records. Develop, maintain, and use databases to generate reports and records; enter, review, retrieve, and modify data; verify data accuracy; provide reports and presentations regarding data.
* Provide EMS training and instruction using a variety of training methods, techniques, and media to appeal to a diverse audience. Employ effective instructional practices to promote learning. Prepare lesson plans using current educational methodologies.
* While not a supervisory position, the Clinical Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and directing career and volunteer students, as well as part-time and adjunct instructors, during assigned courses/programs.

This position requires thorough knowledge of educational theory, principles, practices, methods, evaluation, and techniques of basic and advanced life support education as well as knowledge of database management, spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, Word processing, and other computer driven programs used in the Training Division.

The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; adhere to deadlines; operate independently and maintain flexibility in dynamic environments; analyze critical situations and to adapt quick, effective, and reasonable courses of action with due regard to safety, surrounding hazards, and circumstances; establish, develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, volunteer personnel, other members of the fire-rescue staff and members of the general public; and interact effectively with other agencies/departments, both inside and outside the County, on various staff assignments.

Hiring salary commensurate with experience.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in EMS, Fire Sciences, or related field; three (3) years of related work experience in fire/emergency medical services training and education; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification).
  • Hold and maintain current AEMT or Paramedic certification issued by the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services or the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (Paramedic preferred).
  • Hold a current Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare provider card.
  • Prefer a minimum of (3) years of clinical education/instructional experience; a minimum of (5) years of work experience at the Paramedic level; Hold a current Education Coordinator Certification issued by the Virginia Office of EMS; and ACLS and/or PALS provider card.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Successful completion of a comprehensive background check to include NCIC/VCIN criminal history, fingerprinting, and driving records.
Selection process comprised of application review, in-person interview(s). Local Authorization as an EMS Instructor in Loudoun County within 12 months from date of hire. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, as dictated by program needs. Must be able to lift and move heavy objects up to 50 pounds and maintain physical fitness commensurate with duties.
