Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is seeking a research associate for a named Laboratory Director's Postdoctoral Fellow focused on machine learning for the Advanced Engineering Division. This postdoc appointment will focus on the development of machine learning algorithms applied to additive manufacturing technologies to drive SRNL mission enabler of developing manufacturing solutions for Environmental Management, the NNSA, and energy security. Specific work can be expected to support new material discovery and scale-up activities in both metal and polymer advanced manufacturing.

SRNL is seeking a postdoctoral researcher for the Advanced Engineering Division beginning spring or summer 2025.



  • Self-starting, inquisitive researcher willing to actively promote a collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment at the intersection of machine learning and Advanced Manufacturing, which are growing research areas at SRNL.
  • The Researcher is expected to interface and engage with researchers across all three SRNL Directorates in the regular course of their research. This specifically includes material scientists, electrical and mechanical engineers, and experts in theoretical modeling and simulation.
  • The Researcher will support SRNL's ongoing research and development activities in data-driven process development, which includes using both in situ and offline analytical measurement to scientifically inform process parameter selection and quality control.
  • The Researcher is expected to use their working knowledge of fundamental concepts in data science and machine learning to contextualize results to the manufacturing problems facing DOE EM, NNSA, and the nation. This includes addressing challenges relating to scaling and inspection of novel manufacturing technologies transitioning from a laboratory setting towards a production setting.
  • The postdoc associate is expected to lead publication efforts proceeding from their research activities.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Q, work safely and efficiently.
