Electro-Mechanical Technical Associate (R&D) Job ID JR101696 Date posted 02/27/2025 The National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II) offers scientific and industrial researchers an array of instruments (beamlines) using x-ray, ultraviolet, and infrared light to enable discoveries in clean and affordable energy, high-temperature superconductivity, molecular electronics, and more. The facility enables the study of material properties and functions with nanoscale resolution and exquisite sensitivity by providing world-leading capabilities for X-ray imaging and high-resolution energy analysis. The NSLSII supports an international user community of over 2,200 researchers from 400 universities. The Optics Group at the National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II) is actively seeking an Electro-Mechanical Technical Associate to support the daily operation of its Research and Development (R&D) labs. Aligned with NSLS-II's strategic objectives, the Optics Group plays an important role in advancing high-spatial-resolution imaging and high-coherent-flux scattering by employing cutting-edge optical design and modeling, sub-nanometer-level metrology, and diffraction-limited X-ray mirror fabrication techniques. With considerable latitude for the exercise of initiative and judgment, the successful candidate will perform duties of a technician for the maintenance, troubleshooting, testing and upgrade of UHV deposition chambers and thin films characterization equipment in support of NSLS-II optics group operations. The main task will be to maintain the large R&D deposition system and will require ability to troubleshoot and identify sources of failure and mitigate corrective action. Additionally, the candidate will also support the maintenance and troubleshooting of 2 smaller UHV chambers, one dedicated to Ion Beam Figuring and a new compact deposition/etching chamber (under development). The candidate will work on a varied set of scientific equipment including UHV systems, cryogenics, power supplies, motion control systems and machine automation. This position will require close interaction with scientific staff. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This is a multi-level role and the full salary range for this position is $81,000 - $115,000 / year. You will be placed at the level and salary commensurate with your experience. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate's qualification, education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
