Director of Health Information Management

Full-Time, Weekdays, Day Shift

Position Summary:

The Health Information Management Director maintains medical records of discharged patients in accordance with Federal and state legal requirements and JCAHO standards. Supervises the activities of the Health Infor-mation Management Department. Oversees the chart audit and Health Information/ Utilization Management Committee. Participates in Hospital Management of Information functions, and serves as the Privacy Officer. Follows and abides by company policies, procedures, and Corporate Compliance Program, as applicable to role and responsibilities.

Position Specific Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements health information policies and procedures, including release of information mechanisms.
  • Assures that effective procedures are in place for chart coding, chart processing, interpretation of records and compliance with legal and accrediting requirements.
  • Monitors the analysis of discharged patient records for completeness, and according to hospital policies and procedures and accrediting agency requirements; accomplishes review with 72 hours
  • Assume responsibility for department's compliance with JCAHO and HCFA standards
  • Serves as information privacy consultant to the organization for all departments and appropriate entities
  • Develops, in association with the organization's Information Security and/or Privacy Committee, the information security policies and procedures
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and ongoing compliance monitoring of all trading partner and business associate agreements, to ensure all privacy concerns, requirements, and responsibilities are addressed
  • Establishes with management and operations a mechanism to track access to protected health information, within the purview of the organization and as required by law and to allow qualified individuals to review or receive a report on such activity
  • Provides development guidance and assists in the identification, implementation and maintenance of organization information privacy policies and procedures in coordination with organization management and administration

Qualifications

We train you to be the best, but there are a few minimum requirements for this position:

Education

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Health Information Technology or Healthcare Information Management

Experience

  • Minimum of three years supervisory experience in Health Information, preferably a psychiatric setting.

Certifications/Licensure

  • Must be certified with the Health Information Management Association as an RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) or
  • RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) with maintenance of fulfilling continuing education requirements.

Other Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of medical terminology, transcription skills, and state legal requirements of maintaining patient records.
  • Knowledge of JCAHO standards for maintaining patient records.
  • Excellent grammar and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of DSM-IV and ICD-10-CM coding.
  • Proficient in Release of Information, HIPPA and legal issues.
