Previous work experience in Cancer Registry setting preferred. This employee will be expected to analyze and abstract clinical data as outlined by the NAACCR, SEER/NCI, ACoS-CoC, and State Cancer Registry manuals. Abstracts a minimum of five cases per day. Identifies information necessary for follow-up to maintain follow-up according to ACoS Standards. Must be committed to quality and the achievement of excellence by maintaining a 97% accuracy rate. Attends educational webinars and completes necessary educational training to stay current in data reporting requirements. Must be familiar with National Treatment Guidelines for each specific type of malignancy. Communicates professionally and effectively (orally, written, and virtually mediums). Must be able to utilize and multi-task between various hospital computer software and other data base program. Performs other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required



  • Education
    College level courses in Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology. and
    Associate's Degree Associate's degree or equivalent in experience. or


  • Licenses and Certifications
    Oncology Data Specialist Upon Hire


Preferred



  • Experience
    Previous experience in an approved (Cancer Program) tumor registry preferred.


JOB DUTIES



  • Abstracting: Identify analytic & nonanalytic cases within 6 months of diagnosis and collects data as outlined in the FORDS manual, current State Cancer Registry Handbook and any information required by Cancer Committee Members. Abstracts a minimum of 6 abstracts per day (1abst/1.15hr). Minimum of 35 cases completed per week for remote abstractors.
  • Maintains a 95% accuracy rate in abstracting, suspensing and casefinding as required by the Cancer Committee Performance Improvement Plan.
  • Follow-up: Identifies information necessary for a completed "follow-up." Maintains follow-up according to ACoS Standards. Able to demonstrate/obtain follow-up information via telephone calls, internet, Oacis, and Siemens to assist in follow-up. Performs data entry of information obtained in the follow-up process.
  • Staging Forms: Identifies cases eligible for staging. Able to place the proper staging form in the medical record. Identify physician responsible for completing the staging form.
  • Prepares Charts for physician review. Assist physicians during QA review.
  • Peer Review: Registrar is able to review other registrar's abstract. Gives and receives constructive criticism.
  • Attend at least one state, local, regional or national meeting annually to be in compliance with ACOS.
