Java Observability Engineer (Hybrid)

Cognizant's Digital Engineering practice is seeking a highly qualified Engineer with experience in Java/J2EE development, SRE experience, and observability tools, developing and building hard-working, scalable, enterprise applications. You will be part of a digital software team that works on high-demand applications. Our Engineers have a passion for high-quality, reliable and maintainable code. You will work side by side with product managers, designers, and clients, making decisions together to quickly deliver valuable working software to clients and their users. Location: San Leandro, CA, US (Hybrid)

You must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Responsibilities:
  • Need Java J2EE developer, with some Microservices development too. OCP experience will be preferred.
  • Design, implement, and maintain observability solutions, including monitoring, logging, and tracing systems.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, alerts, and reports to provide visibility into system performance and health.
  • Collaborate with development and operations teams to ensure observability is integrated into the entire software development lifecycle.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to system performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Automate repetitive tasks and processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve observability tools and practices to ensure they meet the needs of the organization.
  • Document observability processes, best practices, and guidelines for the team.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience (7+ years)
  • Proven experience as a Site Reliability Engineer or in a similar role with a focus on observability.
  • Strong knowledge of observability tools and technologies such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, Jaeger, etc.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using languages such as Python, Bash, or similar.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (GCP, Azure) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Salary and Other Compensation:

The annual salary for this position is between $81K - $141K depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position is also eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program and stock awards, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant's applicable plans.
