Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
Parking and Transportation Services manages the University's parking resources by providing campus access to the campus community, visitors and our guests. We are committed to a safe and orderly parking environment through enforcement of parking rules and regulations. We are a customer service driven department. |
Primary Purpose of Position |
The primary purpose of this position is to ensure drivers comply with parking laws and ordinances and issue warnings/citations for violations. Parking Enforcement Officers are also assigned to assist with athletic events, student/special events, meter collection, and may need to assist campus police with accidents/road closures. |
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
The successful candidate must possess a working knowledge of computers and handheld devices; knowledge of how to properly operate all equipment needed to perform job functions and report issues immediately if equipment is not functioning; knowledge of the operations of the organization and familiarity with the infrastructure of the assigned area (e.g., buildings, location of exits, etc.); understanding of parking and transportation rules and regulations; ability to negotiate and resolve conflicts; ability to transmit radio messages using established protocols and procedures; ability to issue citations; ability to assist in emergency response; ability to provide support for special events; ability to control and direct the traffic of people and vehicles; ability to erect barricades; ability to provide motorist assistance; and the ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
The position requires initiative to see projects and assignments through to completion, the ability to learn, interpret, and analyze information to make appropriate decisions, and the capacity to exercise judgment and discretion in problem-solving. The candidate must be able to plan, prioritize, and organize workflow effectively. Excellent analytical and organizational skills are required, as well as strong writing, proofing, and editing skills, along with great oral communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills are an asset to interface effectively and diplomatically with a wide range of individuals in a high-pressure environment. |
Minimum Education/Experience |
High school diploma or equivalency and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Some positions may require a valid NC Driver'S License. |

NCCU Parking Ordinance Guidelines
