Fleet Shop Supervisor

General Purpose:

Direct day-to-day operations of a DFA maintenance shop in the Mountain Area (MA) East providing preventative and corrective maintenance for DFA-owned equipment. Provide maintenance employees direction that allows them to carry out all programs and policies of DFA. Is responsible for planning, scheduling, and documenting repair work to ensure that all work is done in a safe, compliant, efficient, and cost-effective manner.

Hiring pay range: $85k - $90k, depending on experience- bonus eligible.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Create and execute the daily/weekly plan for all assigned shop locations accomplishing preventative maintenance and set or reevaluate priorities depending on location needs. Provide direction to mechanics to ensure that the fleet is repaired and maintained in a safe, efficient, and timely manner with the highest quality
  • Supervise the financial status of their assigned location and monitor and control labor, supplies, and cost. Oversee shop inventory control system to ensure necessary equipment and parts levels are maintained and purchases are within budget. Review and approve expenses that are within scope of approval level; refer larger expenses or major repairs to manager as appropriate
  • Monitor operational performance and efficiency; assist in the identification and implementation of continuous improvement and customer satisfaction opportunities
  • Review DVIR's and communicate service needs to Location Managers or Driver Supervisors. Ensure proper chain of custody is followed by shop staff for daily paperwork, work orders, and parts usage utilizing RTA and other computer programs
  • Manage adherence to safety procedures and policies established by company policy, OSHA, and DOT laws
  • Complete annual performance reviews for assigned employees
  • Work with HR Manager to coach, counsel, and discipline employees; interview and hire new employees; and identify training needs to continually develop and improve the workforce
  • Perform inspections of internal and outside repairs to ensure all work was properly completed in accordance with company's safety and compliance procedures and federal and state regulations; follow up where appropriate
  • Maintain advanced knowledge of engine, emission systems, transmission, brake, hydraulic, and electrical systems to perform advanced preventive and repair maintenance functions on heavy equipment and vehicles used by the Company, both onsite and on the road
  • Assist in routine environmental, safety, OSHA, and DOT compliance and reporting for assigned location
  • Create employee schedules, approve timecards/ time off requests, and work with HR to resolve any payroll issues
  • Actively promote a safety culture by adherence to safety procedures and established company policy regarding Work with Safety and Environmental Manager on investigations and corrective actions as a result of injuries/accidents, audits, or employee concerns
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with local and national vendors to ensure best pricing and quality Work

Education and Experience



  • High school diploma or G.E.D. with 5 years of experience in the diesel engine, heavy equipment repair industry - or- a Technical Degree with 3 years of experience in the diesel engine heavy equipment repair
  • Certification and/or License -


    • Valid state driver's license
    • ASE T Master Certified, preferred
    • Certified Automotive Fleet Management (CAFM) Financial Systems, CAFM Risk Management and CAFM Information Management or experience with/knowledge of similar technology, preferred
    • Commercial Driver's License, preferred

  • Knowledge of and skill with Microsoft Office Suite and company computer systems
