How you will make history here... This is a Senior Packaging Engineer Position in the Snacking Packaging Development Team. This position will engage with cross-functional partners, working closely with Operations, Marketing, Supply Chain, Procurement, Quality, and Product Development. The individual must have strong leadership and project management capabilities to drive Base Packaging Programs, Enablers and Packaging Innovation. This position requires a good understanding of flexible and semi-rigid materials (flexible films, paperboard, corrugate and thermoforming) and how they interface with packaging equipment. The Senior Packaging Engineer requires a proactive mindset that can provide alternative innovative solutions to drive business growth, and the ability to work with the brand team, driving consumer packaging research when appropriate. Additionally, this individual will be required to coach and provide direction to Junior Engineers and Packaging Interns. What you will do here... Principal Accountabilities:
- Executes multiple moderate to high-risk packaging projects
- Builds relationships with a business team (customer)
- Identifies and executes new packaging format innovations
- Leads small project teams
- Identifies opportunities to improve material and performance specifications
- Reviews quality issues and develops plans to resolve
- Conducts competitive material evaluations
Job Complexity:
- Development of new packaging technologies they can run on existing or new equipment
- Trouble shooting issues that arise during line trials and package testing on moderate to high-risk projects with minimal supervision.
- Manage and lead packaging projects effectively and professionally to align with key business objectives and ensure product launch criteria is met.
- Influence and negotiate with cross functional team members to implement the optimal consumer package solution.
- Develop strong relationships with vendors to identify improvement opportunities for packaging materials and equipment
- Identify and implement cost savings and continuous improvement initiatives
- Collaborates with the Packaging Team and other cross functional teams to help identify new approaches, processes and best practices
- Communicates implications of material changes to our manufacturing plants and is able to make recommendations with limited guidance
- Collaborates with the business to drive consumer packaging insights early on in the development process
- Formulates and executes complex experimental design
- Understands the specification system and can create & maintain packaging specifications and formula build
- Prioritizes and tracks projects to ensure projects stay on track, any risks are highlighted, and are executed with excellence
- Understands the relationship between package, product and process
What you bring to the table:
- Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in a materials-based program
- Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree in Packaging
- 5 years minimum of experience in Packaging R&D or related field

- Has analytical depth and technical expertise in packaging materials, processes, or systems

- Able to develop an implementation plan on low-moderate risk projects using sound technical methodology
- Determine the type of testing necessary to simulate the distribution environment
- Ability to work with ambiguous or abstract concepts/information and synthesize options for management
- Proficient in pallet programs-TOPS or CAPE, specification database management, and MS Office software
- Anticipated travel at around 25% to 30% is often associated to line trials at manufacturing or vendor locations.
- A significant portion of the job is in a normal office environment.
Compensation and Benefits: The target base salary range for this full-time, salaried position is between $113,800-$163,500
Individual base pay depends on work location and additional factors such as experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training. Total pay may include other forms of compensation. In addition, we offer competitive health, dental, 401k and wellness benefits beginning on the first day of employment.
