Position Summary:

The Product Owner, Data Platform manages and defines the product vision and strategy for the American Physical Society (APS) Data Platform, including business intelligence and analytics services, and developing programs to advance the organizational maturity in data and analytics. Ensuring alignment with organizational goals and the delivery of exceptional data analysis experiences while fostering a data driven culture. The role collaborates closely with cross-functional teams so that requirements are prioritized to meet customer needs and projects are delivered on time and within budget. Responsibilities:




  • Strategic Management: Facilitate and guide cross-functional teams to align product execution with organizational goals, communicating the product vision and roadmap effectively.



  • Vision and Roadmap: Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and maintain a clear product vision and roadmap, ensuring strategic alignment.



  • User Research: Partner with the experience design team to conduct user research, leveraging data analytics to identify trends and opportunities.



  • Backlog Management: Oversee the product backlog, ensuring clarity, prioritization, and alignment with development team capabilities.



  • User Story Development: Define and prioritize user stories with clear acceptance criteria, aligning with product goals and user needs.



  • Development Collaboration: Work closely with the development team, providing direction and removing impediments while bridging the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders.



  • Market Analysis: Stay informed about market trends, competitive landscape, and emerging technologies, applying this knowledge to product strategy.



  • Feature Prioritization: Prioritize features based on value delivery and user experience enhancement.



  • UX/UI Collaboration: Work with UX/UI teams on concept designs and wireframes, ensuring user-centric product development.



  • Stakeholder Communication: Effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders, simplifying complex technical topics for diverse audiences



  • Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and emerging tools related to product management.



  • Additional duties as assigned.





Education:


  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business, Computer Science, Marketing, Engineering, Technology, or related fields. Directly applicable experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.




Preferred certifications:




  • PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (ACP)



  • Scaled Agile Framework, Product Owner/Product Manager (SAFe - POPM)



  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM)



  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO)





Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in digital product ownership and/or data analytics experience
  • Advanced knowledge of data pipelines and data integration requirements for Business Intelligence (BI) applications
  • Demonstrated expertise in creating and managing digital products
  • Proficient understanding of user-centered design and systems thinking frameworks
  • Proficiency in using project management tools, with a preference for experience with Asana
  • Experience with Google Looker,Tableau, or other BI platforms is preferred
  • Proven experience in managing projects and delivering results within specified deadlines
  • Experience working with relevant technologies, including UX/UI design tools (Figma, Photoshop), collaboration tools (LucidChart, Miro, Zoom), project management (Asana, Airtable, Jira), data & analytics (Looker Studio, Tableau), and Google Productivity Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive)


Travel:This position requires up to 10% travel to attend events and meetings, including travel to APS offices in Long Island, NY; Washington DC; and College Park, MD, as well as other off-site locations for periodic meetings and training sessions. Additional travel may be required as assigned by the supervisor.

Salary:

The salary range for this position takes into account various factors influencing compensation decisions, such as skill sets, experience, training, and other business and organizational requirements. The salary listed within the specified ranges considers relevant experience. Our compensation philosophy at APS aims to maintain salaries at the midpoint of the market. As a result, we typically hire within the target starting range. Exceptional, rare cases may merit reviews above target starting range for specialized or niche skills aligned with strategic operational goals.

Hiring Range:$98,240/year - $133,852/year (USD)

Target Starting Range:$98,240/year - $109,292/year (USD)

Work Environment:

As noted above, APS offers a "Remote First" workplace. Although our offices are located on Long Island, NY, College Park, MD and Washington DC, you can work from other places in the United States. We are flexible about work hours, but expect responsiveness during the core of the workday, Eastern Time.
