The primary role of the developer is to take the design and technical specifications and develop effective and high quality technical solutions that meet the business requirements. The technical domain of the BI Developer includes understanding Business Intelligence (BI) best practices, tools and technologies, security in the environment, understanding of different data warehousing and dimensional modelling concepts, BI development, performance tuning and support system testing.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Ability to work closely with Business Analysts and SMEs to understand business needs and help define requirements for reporting solutions
  • Ability to design, develop, and maintain reports and dashboards in IBM Cognos, Tableau, and other BI tools
  • Ability to optimize report performance, troubleshoot issues, and enhance usability
  • Generate reports and data extracts based on ad-hoc business using SQL, BI Tools to retrieve and present data
  • Proficient in designing and creating reports primarily using Cognos , Excel and Tableau..
  • Familiarity with ETL tools like SSIS, Informatica and Teradata
  • Familiarity with Data Visualization tools like Tableau
  • Perform analysis, interpret results, analyze & investigate, develop actionable insights and present recommendations
  • Participate in development and configuration projects for a broad set of solutions including transactional and repository reporting applications
  • Develop technical design documents to describe and support justification of the chosen reporting architecture and proposed implementation
  • Develop detail design documents, data structure diagrams and code assets supporting the reporting implementation
  • Create/maintain report design related artifacts
  • Validate the BI design and ensure that technical specifications are complete, consistent, concise, and achievable
  • Ability to work and deliver in a very high paced environment with limited information at times to support business needs
  • Experienced in working with sensitive/de-identified data environments
  • Experience in working with encrypted and secure data transfers
  • Proactive and diligent in identifying and communicating scope, design, development issues and recommending potential solutions
  • Participate in BI/Reporting architecture design reviews
  • Conduct BI/Reporting unit testing and code reviews
  • Participate in system and integration test; identifies and remedies solution defects
  • Create other technical artifacts needed for project implementation

Required Qualifications:



  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with developing reports and dashboards using multiple tools such as Tableau, Cognos, PowerBI using best practices and industry standards
  • 3+ years of reporting/SQL coding experience
  • 3+ years of experience working in a Data Warehouse environment including understanding of Enterprise Data warehouse data models Relational and dimensional modelling concepts, source to target mapping and Data Integration architecture
  • Experience with large scale data sets (100,000+ lines) performing analysis, reporting, and trending
  • Experience translating business needs and specifications for reporting purposes and with an ability to work and communicate with both the business and technical experts
  • Experience in analysis of healthcare data and management of healthcare information systems
  • Proven high and extensive level of technical skills, database software applications
  • Ability to ensure compliance with healthcare data privacy regulations, such as HIPAA, when handling sensitive information
  • Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines, follow development standards and effectively raise critical issues with the client
  • Proven critical thinking, problem solving, performance tuning, decision making and analytical skills
  • Proven excellent oral and written communication skills



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience in acquiring and merging data sets from multiple sources as necessary for building analytics prototypes
  • Proven knowledge of Medicaid and State Government



The salary range for this role is $89,800 to $176,700 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
