The term Graduate Assistant is the umbrella term that encompasses all types of GA appointments. Graduate Assistants are employed by the University to teach, conduct research, or assist with administrative duties in departments and non-academic units. Every attempt is made to assign Graduate Assistants to positions that are directly related to the student's field of study or that provide the opportunity to develop transferable, professional skills. Graduate Assistantships are assigned in the department or unit and confirmed by the Graduate School. |

Department/Office Mission:
The Office of Leadership and Civic Engagement prepares students to serve as change-makers. We develop, promote, and advance civic engagement, leadership development, and meaningful service to create positive social change.

Job Description-Reporting: This position falls under the direct supervision of the Associate Director for Civic Engagement
Job Description-Job Duties and/or Responsibilities:
The Graduate Assistant for Civic Engagement will work with fellow staff members to coordinate and advise
OLCE program initiatives and support the overall function of the office.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Oversee operations of the Catalyst service program by empowering student leaders to plan and execute meaningful and educational service experiences for students monthly.
- Recruit, train, and supervise 4-6 Catalyst Leaders
- Co-coordinate community service programming that may include Spartan Service Day, Volunteer Fair, and MLK Day of Service.
- Develop and review assessment data for programs in your area of responsibility
- Serve on the facilitation team for the Bronze Experience in the Spartan Leadership Challenge (may include evening hours once a week during some semesters)
- Assist with the management of OLCE social media
- Participate in OLCE office wide programming including the LiNC planning committee, Changemaker Week planning committee, Changemaker of the Month program, Spartan Leadership Challenge Medallion Ceremony and Days of Service.
- Provide support to OLCE's operations and programs as necessary, as well as other duties as assigned.
Work Hours, Environment:
The position is located in an
OLCE office space with other GAs (Each GA has his/her/their own desk area). Work is mainly completed in the office, though some programming takes place in different areas around campus (workshop facilitation, conferences, etc.). This position is expected to work an average of 20 hours per week during the traditional fall and spring semesters.
Additional Terms of Employment: This position is traditionally hired as a 2-year Graduate Assistantship. |
