Summary of Position: The Residence Hall Director position is live-off, full-time position who serves as a resource for students in the Residence Hall. Responsibilities include coordinating Residence Hall student staff (Community Assistants and Desk Assistants), maintaining Residence Hall front desk operations, providing on-call emergency assistance to the Residence Hall community, and advising and guiding student development programming for Residence Hall community members.


Essential Functions

1. Maintain and uphold the College values of Learning, Excellence, Accountability, Diversity, Student Success, Teamwork, Integrity, and Respect. Regular attendance is required.

2. Complete all required College training and responsible for maintaining the skills necessary to complete the essential functions of the position as defined by the department.

3. Student Success is the cornerstone of Western's culture and the college may assign employees as needed to other areas or additional duties to foster this success

4. Supervision and Administration - Supporting Action/Task May Include:
  • Select, supervise and provide continuous training and development for Community Assistants (CAs) and Desk Assistants (DAs) during the academic year
  • Oversee operations of 200-bed residence hall. Work closely with Facilities to manage equipment upkeep and replacement and cleaning schedules, and maintain key control and inventory
  • Coordinate front desk operations, DA scheduling, amenity management, administrative tasks, and organization
  • Oversee resident move-ins/move-outs and annual building openings/closings
  • Oversee, with the assistance of the Student Life Specialist and Manager of Student Leadership and Engagement, administrative processes related to Residence Hall functions and maintain Residence Hall specific records.
  • Answer requests for information and attend campus and community meetings and events as assigned

5. Safety, Security, and Emergency Response - Supporting Action/Task May Include:

  • Participate in a rotating on-call system providing emergency leadership assistance to Residence Life staff and community members
  • Follow College and Residence Hall guidelines for emergency management, and provide training to Residence Hall staff on emergency response
  • Communicate and enforce College and Residence Hall policies to Residence Life staff and community members, and provide proactive, ongoing education and training related to policy compliance. Address student policy violations, issues and concerns.
  • Provide support, mediation, and referral to campus resources for community members experiencing concerns or challenges using a restorative justice lens

6. Community Development and Student Engagement - Supporting Action/Task May Include:

  • Advise and guide Residence Life staff in implementing, assessing, and evaluating student development focused programming, incorporating the Residence Life mission and community values
  • Create and maintain an engaging and inclusive living community in the residence hall using an established community development model/curriculum
  • Develop a calendar, planning timelines, follow budgeting processes and financial record management for all Residence Life programming
  • Attend programs, events, and maintain active, ongoing visibility and approachability in the Residence Hall


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field OR
  • Four years occupational experience OR
  • Education in related field combine with related occupational experience 4 yrs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Student Affairs Administration,
    College Student Development, Higher Education
    Administration, or relevant field
  • Experience in Residence Life, Student Services, or
    relevant field
  • Candidates who live within a 20-mile radius of the La Crosse Campus

Special Instructions/About Western

This position reports to: Manager, Student Leadership and Engagement

Starting annual salary range based on education and experience: $63,815 - $80,848

This position would include competitive salary, along with a wide variety of benefits available to full-time Western Technical College Employees.
